Data
Post your 400XT powered plane data here.

As many of you know the 400XT motor sold by Hobby-Lobby and others is a great little motor for a very good price. Many folks are wondering what this little gem will fly.

So with that in mind please post your setup here. Include the model it is hanging on, prop size, battery size/type and ESC.

PLEASE, do not post questions to this thread. Post your 400XT questions or comments here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350353

Thanks.

I'll start this off in my next post.

Stevens Aero Squirt 400
AUW 17oz, 3s740 Kokam 20c pack, GWS 8060 HD Prop, Hyperion prop saver, 9.95amps and about 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. I never need to go above 1/2 throttle.

Also I have a Slow Stick using a APC 8x3.8 and a 3s1320 pack, and was perfect. I drew in the realm of 9amps. Since the plane was intened for night flying I added glow wire to it and a bit more weight. So I need to prop up a little more for a pinch more pitch speed. A GWS 8060HD prop for this application as well or a 9050HD prop. I also changed the battery to a 3s2000 Common Sence 10c pack. It looks awesome at night!

I did a build using a Wattage Tangent fuselage. The 400XT and a GWS 1060 pulls it around with authority.

AUW 12.5 oz
Esskay 400XT
CC TB18
TP 3C 780mAh
GWS 1040

Ken Willard Showmaster - 42 inch span cabin plane with a deeply undercambered wing. Built in 1980 for a throttled Cox Medallion .049 and covered in Super Coverite....

400XT with APC 7x4SF, running on 3s Kokam 910s, Jeti ESC. As much zip as it had glow, and nearly 30 minute flights.....

Esskay-powered planes so far are GWS P51 and Corsair (with bomb rack), Wattage Sporty, and Mountain Models Miniflash. I have one more Esskay, which will likely re-power my beat-up old Wattage Crazy Max. I obviously get a lot of mileage out of my planes...

All use CC10 controllers. Props - P51/Corsair GWS HD 9x5, Miniflash APC LP10x3.8, Sporty APC LP8x6. Batteries TP1320 3S for all but the Sporty, where I go a little smaller.

Antonio the cat obviously approves of Esskays, and he may well be powered by one, for all I know.

GWS E-Starter, 400XT, APC 8x6 TE prop, 3S, 10C, 900 mAh Apex lipo pack. Ready to fly weight is 16 oz, the model takes off with a 5-foot run on grass and climbs out vertical. The power infusion has woken up this old, tired trainer!

Multiplex Twinstar II (big twin-motor foamy, 56-inch wingspan). Mine is powered with two 400XT outrunners, each driven by a Thunderbird 18 ESC and spinning a GWS 8x6 HD prop. The battery is an Apex 3S, 10C, 2000 mAh lipo pack. Ready to fly weight is 33 ounces, full-throttle current is about 18 A total for both motors (the battery drops to about 9.7 V under the load). Following a hand-launch, the model will climb out at about an 80 degree angle at full throttle, and will maintain climb for a few seconds if pulled to dead vertical, then hover for a second before falling off to one side. Top speed is over 45 mph.

The stock Multiplex power system for this plane is very marginal (based on seeing similar models fly, and on motor/prop simulations. I never bothered to fly this plane with the stock power setup because I knew it was not worth the effort). Using twin 400XT's and a lipo pack has tranformed this plane, making it truly fun to fly.

Like CatchmyCorsair, I have the 400XT in an Ikarus Yak 54 Shockflyer:

400XT
Generic (eBay) 10-12A ESC
9x4.7 GWS prop (APC might well be better, or the new Graupner slowfly props)
Etec 1200 3s (both 7C and 8.5C versions)

This setup gives fantastic power, including fast vertical, on a plane this size. No part of the setup gets more than lukewarm, if that.

Glad someone started this thread.

Slowstick spinning an 8x3.8 APC SF prop. T-Bird 18 ESC and a 3s Apogee 1050mAh pack. I have the bird trimmed for level flight at 1/3 throttle and I can squeak 25 minutes out of the pack if I am judicious on the throttle. 11 minutes if I am doing a lot of full power climbs (at nearly vertical) and other agressive flying.

I am going to have one in a combat plane with the same setup above but using a 7x6 APC prop.

Has anyone tried using this motor with the 15A GWS BLDC controller? I've heard there might be compatability issues.

Mighty 400XT

Interesting...many applications for this great little motor,I picked up 2 of 'em at the Hobby Lobby sale and I think I'll try the first one on the UZI bipe.It looks like about 10-11 ozs. so this should be perfect.I know the 400 XT motor is gonna work good 'cause I've already tried its bigger brother the 450XT and it's powerfull.!!About 32-35 ozs. thrust with the GWS 11X7 hyperdrive prop and only 15 amps.

Bluecor Mini3dx 10oz AUW, CC Phx10 ESC, 2 cell Dymond 1300, 1047 GWS SF prop. Pulls the plane around easily. Vertical is no problem, the motor is cool when I land.
