Question
Want To Shorten My Servo Wires, Whats The Best Way?!?

Hi all,

Got a few servo wires, as well as the 'servo' wire for my ESC that I wana shorten, just looking for the best way to do it...

Firstly, its OK to shorten these wires isnt it? Brushed and BL ESC...

Now, Im thinking, just cut a piece out of the middle area of the wire, to shorten it. Then just solder the 3 wires together, idividually heatshrink them, then put a piece of larger heatskrink round the 3 wires to keep them together.
Does that sound like a good plan, or are there any other better ways?

I dont ahve any special crimping tools e.t.c., just the normal wire cutters, strippers, solderin iron e.t.c.

Thanks in advance,
Duane

That's all I know of Duane. Just make sure you get the polarity right...

Don't Cut Servo Wires.

You may want them longer when you reuse them in another plane. Find a way to wrap them up and tape them to keep them neat. The extra wire doesn't weigh much.

If you are doing this to save weight, don't, you won't unless you remove a lot of wire.
I would do as you mentioned until the three wires are soldered/shrunk. Then add some hot glue over the area on both sides keeping it thin. It won't take much heat glue to satisfy your eyes.

You can open up the the servo and desolder and resolder the shortened lead to the circuit board.

Be sure to tin the wires and reconnect the wire the same way it came off.

Easiest way is to loop them shorter and use some Zip-Ties.

I ONLY cut when there is not enough room and I have never had this problem in an aircraft.

Loop and tie.
There's other planes in the future that will need the full length..
