Im not very good when it comes to motors but have any of you guys seen the new ad for the AC brushless motors that hobby lobby is selling? They say they are about the same size and weight of a speed 280 but have the power of a 480. Plus they have a cool looking Carbon fiber case (am i stupid or what). Anyways would this be suitable for a Hornet or Piccolo?

I don't know anything else about it. It does show 3000 rpm/v so it could work. Seems there was something said such as why get this when you could get a proven hacker for same money or something like that.

Just noticed eff. numbers. I don't use brushless so I'm not an expert but I thought brushless should offer more than 78-79% efficiency. This is what the mini motors are rated. What does a hacker give?

A Hacker gives about 79-80% eff.

The 16 will work on the Hornet will a 14 tooth pinion for CP, 12 for FP. Jim tested this setup. I'm just waiting from the manufacturer to release the heli version of the esc.

When is the heli version being released? Looks like a good price for those controllers.

Anything else should do, like the Phoenix-10, etc... I may have to try one. The speed 300 in my Hornet finally died last week...

I am using the 16 motor (kv 3800) in a CP Piccolo, and am very pleased indeed. On Seven nimh I am getting very good flight time, and more power than I need. I have finally got a cp piccolo that flies like it shou, the stock motors (295 & 310)were just too wimpy.

wow, u got a motorwith 3,800 kv to work in your CP piccolo? are you using the 110 spur grear?

does that AC motor u are using create the need to modify the main chassis in anyway for it to fit on the piccolo?

I am using the standard main gear and a nine tooth pinion, 110 teeth on the main might be better, but this flies fine, I calculate;

Looking at the specs for the motor on www.modelmotors.cz it looks like highest efficiency for the motor on seven cells is around 21.000-23.000 rpm, but the loss going down to 18-19.000 is relatively small 2 or 3%.

The main bonus for me is just to have ample power available, I am never using full throttle and hover at around 60%, at this level it is probably very close to optimum efficiency.
