SPAD type mini carry case.

I built my first carry case today. cost of about 9$. I refuse to pay 90$ for some half baked al case. I have a TX case already.

I wanted it to be
small
light
simple
frugal on material
cheap
functional
protect against hangar rash in transporting
not look like big money was inside

I didn't want protection against
baggage handlers
gorilla attacks
etc

The attached plans will make 2 from a sheet of 5mm coroplast. It is some what better if you leave the front flap off and make another top section and flap with the grain running opposite to control "ballooning". This would make the 3 pieces next to the ends redundant as they are turning scrap into stiffening material intended to go inside the lid.

Any one with SPAD experience can jump right in and school us. Any interest I could probably make a mini how to. Though not much left to cover except stuff that can be gleaned from the SPAD forum. Afterall I bought the coroplast for a SPAD project and never started after the heli bug bit.

It's a simple cheap fun and easy project. Will carry an X400 with extended boom with the canopy on. Probably an XL?

Also looks like the plans could be applied to anyone with a little sheet metal experience and a mig welder..... would have to mod them just a little, but..... lookin' good!

Local plastics supply house. I forgot to mention the whole thing weighs 800g empty so it's not very heavy but much more substantial than I ever expected. I just sorta figured if I was gonna make a wing out of it for a .60 sized plank (as others have and are doing) it had to be OK for a heli case.

I need a couple more so I'm going to pick up another couple sheets (the wife got a look at it and want's some custom work).

Cool case. Gets the job done cheap and still looks good!

Although, I gotta say, without that gorilla attack protection you are a mite vulnerable!

There shouldn't be too much to mod for sheet metal though it wasn't laid out to be shear friendly. I know a guy with a large format vulcan and another with a 4x4' cnc plasma table I may just have to lay it out for sheet. Not having to worry about "grain" I could probably get a better layout material wise. Maybe the light SS the guy with the vulcan makes range hoods from.

I'm also thinking maybe 1/8 th " (3mm) plexiglass would be neat.

Making it from other materials will null one nice feature. If you take the heli out and the case blows away you know it's too windy.
