In Flight pics of The Angular Diversion w/GWS 300C-C

The Angular Diversion (thanks Genebond) flys Fantastic!!! My photographer (wife) who is generally unimpressed with my planes comments like WOW... It's so fast it's hard to get pics... I'm impressed... etc. made it all worthwhile! Installed the GWS 300C-C motor this afternoon,10 X 4.7 prop. Plane weighs 12.2oz ready to fly with 7 cell 720ma NiMH pack. Motor prop combo has 13.4 oz static thrust. Take off down wind was less than 6 feet and the take off pic shows you the climb angle as it leaves the ground. Wind according to 5 o'clock news was 13mph with stronger gusts. Web weather and Acuweather said 12 with gusts to 27! This plane just plain doesn't care! I never once felt I didn't have complete control even at 1/2 throttle. Will now concentrate on a fuse model with a angular kind of delta look without changing the basic wing design. Now the pics....

Beautiful!

Glad the name stuck, now for a fuselage to do the name justice...

Gotta love that 300 gearmotor, huh? Seems you can fly a lot of different stuff with it, and learn how good the design really is by how much you back off the throttle. 12oz is more than I thought that one was going for, but about right for that motor. Aught to be able to have some fun!

I'm sure most of the weight is because of all the hardwood used for spars and LE and TE. But I designed the wing for this motor and I think the wing will take about anything I can ask of it! I have a D coming for a 12 X 6 prop w/static thrust of 15+ oz I am gonna try also. But I want to build a 300C powered one with fuse and then a lighter one for 2 EDF Fans.

UPDATE

Wind died some around 8PM and tried the 8 cell-720 pack. THis thing is awesome. Some vertical. Loops great. Will hang on the prop and hover like the Mini IFO. Dives are fast with instant pullout response will turn in less than 6 feet and lands like a feather! I could fly this sucker in my cul de sac!! I couldn't be happier with a plane!!

Angular Diversion

Well, Nice build.Congratulations!. I'm very confused tho, because when I read the thread about naming the plane, I assumed it was an original design. Looks to me like the design is already named amd is a free downloadable file. Seems rather like plagerism (sic?) to me. Sure lots of interesting reads in here. To each his own .

If you noticed my begining post on the original thread I said it was based on the PWT but I never leave well enough alone so I begin changing the design, I explained that I had changed only the wing design from the original PWT. Which made it a completly diff. flying plane. As far as the original concept it is all based on the original Delta Dart of years back. The renaming was a fun thing we did as the new wing made it look like a lawn dart. But if that bothers you so be it.

Love the name

Good choice for the name. I also like that you added an airfoil, it has to improve performance. Nice project.

Uncled: Hopefully, you aren't offended by the renaming thing, as the name 'Pointy Wingy Thingy' was a rename of the original version, 'Delta Dart', just made bigger and E powered. The 'Angular Diversion is another evolution, including an airfoil (of sorts), and enlarged even more, to make a different plane, entirely. I suppose Boomer could have called it '150% Pointy Wingy Thingy, with Airfoil', but from the reports, the flight characteristics are changed enough that it's a different plane.

A while back, I asked the question of when a builder/designer should change the name of a plane, ie, after many design changes, or after the flight charicteristics are changed, or what. I got a lot of mixed answers, but finally decided to give credit where credit is due, and once it's different enough, give it a new name...
