Gossie,Jwfinn, Applehoney:

I got my plan from JohnPond, his plans are available from the AMA www.modelaircraft.org look under "Plans service" section "F" it's listed as French 1936 Record, page 39. ($19.00)

The original has a span of 81" and an area of 803sq.in. The engine shown on the plan is a Brown Junior. I think it would be a great model for the SAM Brown Junior class.

For a three view to see what it looks like, its in the Zaic 1938 yearbook or you can find one at the SAM 600 web site www.sam600.com Look in the model recognition section in the antique section. It's listed as French 42 Min record. The designer was M. Lartique.

The original model shows a planked fuselage, but I chose to use stringers as it's lighter and easier to get to the radio components. The fuselage could also be covered with sheet wood as it's a straight taper. If you use stringers, you will need to use a diagonal wrap of Kevlar thread for torsional stiffness. It doesn't take much, once up and back at about 45 degrees, it works wonders.

Attached is a photo of a 1005sq.in. version I'm building for the Electric Texaco event (that's a very beat up yardstick in the photo for scale). what you see is 52"long, the nose will add another 6". If you choose to use stringer construction I would suggest doubling the number of fuselage formers shown on the plan, as in the photo.

My vote would go to the "Mystery Man" out of the June 39 Air Trails, drop off landing gear and a lovely gull wing layout.

How about this one, a 1938 Lancer 45 scaled up to 80".

Very nice model and seems to be very streamline FUSE such that it may have some speed as well! You got my attention!

Not that I want to turn this into a Lancer thread, but...

what kind of power is in your 80" Lancer?
Are your scaled up plans available?

No, I don't have plans. I flew it with an OS 40 VRP in LER and an Ohlsson 60 in Texaco.

They were a huge build some of those sailplanes from the 40s.

Have a few very old Aeromodeller mags with them in but don't think l could stand to do one.

The designs though for their time to me are still mind boggling.

Hey Chas, how large is the Evander?

OK, so this next one isn't technically an old timer but I'd like to think that it was inspired by my tastes in old timers. It comes from a thread I posted in Sailplanes.
