Eut: Regarding the Fillon,

I haven't started it yet, I have the short kit from Klarich. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to laminate the outlines as they are elliptical in both the outline, and the dihedral.

I've been waiting until I was at home with my pictures to post.

First off a couple of rubber models. The first is Henry Strucks Diamond or Contest Winner depending on which source of name you find. It's a top down view of my avatar model. This model first saw the light of day a little before the 91 SAM Champs at Jean where I flew it in the events down there. It's now over 15 years young and still going strong.

The next is one of the Birth Day photos of my Easy Built Miss Canada Sr. I've still got the model but it's currently sitting with a broken wing and the tissue is so faded that it's hard to tell the red from the white any more. The only vivid colors on it are the Solarfilm iron on letters that a fellow with a lettering cutter made for me. This model first came out in around 1988 or so. It is as close to a guaranteed easy trimming and flying model as you're likely to find in free flight. I've personally seen at least 6 of them other than mine that trimmed out with a minimum of fuss and went on to fly in fine style until thermals took them away or some other calamity befell them. HIGHLY RECOMENDED as a path for instant satisfaction and success.

And then the power models....

The first is my own Henry Struck Record hound in company of a second Record Hound belonging to my OFB Steve Dona. Mine is electric RC and his is Super Cyke FF.

Second is Steve with his California Champ gassie.

The classic Zipper fills out this trio. I don't remember who's this is but I saw it at a contest down in Oregon. The fellow was getting on and so he had put rudder only RC into it just to return it to himself. But the launch and much of the flight was done ala Free Flight depending on the wind.

I thought I had a pic of my Miss Tiny but it seems to have suffered in some previous hard drive crash. But I've got it on a slide so I'll scan it in over the next couple of days. Also my big Roger Hammer Flamingo. Now there's a balsa overcast! It does't have the same wing span as some like Eut's Condor but the wing chord sort of makes up for it...

I'll also take some pics of my Dallaire Pee Wee Speedster.

I don't have a photo but I was going to say the Miss Tiny. The Strato Streak is pretty nice as well.

Anyone have plans for a Miss Tiny?

That's the one Wingbeat - thanks for photograph.

Obligatory elliptical surfaces and stringered fuselage but just that little bit different with cockpit cut out and upright cowled engine.

Real pretty!

I don't fly power models right now, though I really like the Ladybird biplane. Will probably build one someday. As for rubber models, here are my two favorites: Lidgard's Hi-Ho and Cole's Smoothie. I don't have a Smoothie (picture lifted from somewhere else), just think it's the coolest rubber model I've ever seen. Clean lines and performance to boot. As you can see, I do, however, have a Hi-Ho. It's got awesome performance, that's all I can say. Very easy to trim, too, but you must remember to not use any downthrust!

JW, your pic reminded me that I re-drew the Smoothie plans some years back. If you're keen on a copy let me know. Copy cost would be in the $2 to $3 range as I recall and mailing will add another buck I'd guess.

A buddy in SAM 8 in Seattle built one from my plans and confirmed that my formers and ribs all fit up nicely with no mods required to fair in the stringers. A fact that did not apparently follow if the model was built from the magazine plans.

I'd forggoten all about the Smoothie. It's truly one of the most beautiful of the rubber models for sure. Frankly I like it better than that the Copeland model that everyone goes nuts over.

Same offer applies to anyone else too. It's a pencil on vellum master and makes for a nice blackline print.
