New Raptor 50 test: Hacker A50-12S...
Today we flew Mark's completely stock Raptor with a new setup. I had received a couple of the new Hacker A50 outrunners to test, an A50-12S, which has a kV of 492, and a larger A50-12L that has a kv of around 350. We put the 12S into Mark's Raptor, with a Phoenix 45 HV. Because of the lower kV, compared to a 1912-1.5Y or a 24-4, we used the stock R50 85T/10T gear combo. The 100% h/s was 2070, which is perfect.
Frankly, I wasn't holding out too much hope that it would work as well as the proven 1912 and 24-4 solutions, primarily because of losing the torque benefit of the taller 86T/9T gearing. I was quite surprised when it actually worked just as well as the 1912-1.5Y, maybe even a little better. My second concern was that it being a 14-poled variant, it might get too hot at the 19,000 rpm,or so, that it would run at on 10s. It didn't. I think it might have gotten to about 135F. The secret is the use of the Phoenix 45 HV. Most of the popular controllers, like the Schulze 32.55k, or the Jazz 55-10-32, have a limit of about 17,000 rpm for a 14-pole motor. The Phx 45 HV will allow a 14-pole to spin as high as 28,000. Anyway, here's a video I did today: Raptor 50 | Hacker A50-12S | 10s2p-4200 PL | 3-18-06 The good news, for those interested, is that these are going to be available by Tuesday or Wednesday, and they will be priced at $149. The A50s have a 6mm shaft but I just received a new batch of pinion adapters with 6mm bores. I also plan to try the A50-12L in my re-constituted Logo 24 with a 12s2p-4200 setup. I'm very encouraged by the results with the 12S. We'll see. ![]() -- Gary EDIT (3-20-06): Here's a second video with the "instrumentation": Raptor 50 | Hacker A50-12S | 10s2p-4200 PL | 3-19-06 Last edited by GGoodrum; Mar 20, 2006 at 09:14 PM. |

Mmm nice news, under $300 for motor and ESC!
9.56:1 gearing should work good also giving a headspeed of around 1840... |

just wondering with the shaft sizes, they say 5mm here http://www.hacker-motor.com/deutsch/ what flight time are you getting? Wouldnt the L be to big for the logo 14? weight wise? Thanks for sharing your results, would be cool to do a side by side to the Actro and Neu with one of those FLight anaylisers. cheers |

That video is obviously a counterfeit
I've been around those guys flying and there wasn't any cussing, it can't be them You'd think that with Mikado so closely involved in this project they would have made the shafts 5mms Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice power and flying Al |

![]() This actually isn't the same A50 that Ralf and Andy have been testing. Hacker has been trying 10-poled variants, primarily because of the fact they are using a Jazz controller, I think, which has the 17k rpm limit for 14-poles. Frankly, I think they are missing the boat here. Generally, the more poles you have, the lower the resistance and the higher the torque. Simply switching to the Phx controller, with the higher rpm limit, means we can spin this thing up where it needs to be, around 19-20,000, where it has stump-pulling torque, without it getting much above body temperature. As for the 6 mm shaft, I think this will have less wear and tear on the bearings, and with the Raptors, this is not a problem. I just had a bunch of 6mm pinion adapters made. I've got a bunch of Phx 45 HVs on order, but I've seen them around, here and there. Eventually, I'd like to be able to offer a package deal, with the basic kit, the motor and a Phx 45 HV for about $299. For now, I'll offer the kit and the motor for $189. -- Gary |

Gary,
How do you compare the power of the hacker to the 1912-1y. epc2. |

300 bucks, I paid more than that for just my first motor, an Actro 24-4 Airplane.
And then I had $375 into an ESC. My first Raptor motor, a B-50 15XL Hacker was 300 bucks itself. Man have we come a loooooooooong way

looking good. I've noticed that they are not releasing the a40s yet. I've been happy with my hyperion z4020 in the swift as well. (hmm, isn't raptor gear 1.0mod, just like swift?) having 9 and 10 tooth with 6mm hole may not be a bad thing. now, I need to look for a used raptor.
