Question
New plans/planes from 3 views?

I want to do a couple of foamies that I can not find plans for, namely a Cessna 150 Aerobat and a P-47 Thunderbolt.

I have access to a projector for my laptop...

My question is, if I simply use the projector to shine the 3 view image of a given plane and adjust it to the scale I would like, say a 28-34 inch wingspan, and draw directly onto the FFF would I likely end up with a flyable plane or are the real-world dimensions often unacceptable for our application?

(Wow that is one run-on sentence! My wife, the teacher would scold me! )

Thanks for any advice or input!

a projector is a great idea, it will save about 12 pieces of paper from printing the plans.

Well the paper is not the issue... The issue is making planes for which there are no plans...

That said I guess it would work on one page plans as well! Just adjust the projector untill you get to the size you need.

It's a good idea to increase the size of the tail feathers 10% for a start. Makes the plane fly much better.

Paper Plans?

After you cut the pieces out, you can trace them onto paper for future builds.
I've got access to a LCD projector and I am going to try it for the next build.

Projector would work.

I would still say RastaPrint is the easiest way to go. These were prepared ready to print in less than 60 seconds.

How would one go about printing that at the size needed?

I'm not familiar with Rasta Print... I take it it is a prog that will tile the pic automatically?

I prefer the bubble canopy P-47 as opposed to the razorback...

Thanks!

What if you print the above images at 8.5 x 11. Make a xerox transparency and then shine them against the wall with an old fashioned overhead projector.

Yes, it's a program designed to do precisely what you are tryng to accomplish, that is : scale up small 3views and tile print them. In addition to that, you get good bitmap cleanup, full size PDF printing support and more.

You can learn about it here. : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482875

Any other "rules of thumb"?

I was thinking surely the ailerons and possibly other control surfaces would need enlarging somewhat...

I may need to shorten the 150 a bit to prevent a tail heavy situation that could be hard to overcome as it is so long seeming...

What say ye?

Shorten the tail, stretch the nose, use a heavy motor? Who would know?
