Super Skids for Blade CP!!
The Super Skids are in stock at heli-direct, and I just ordered mine - can't wait to receive them & install them!! I'm not sure how interesting this is to fellow Blade fliers, but I'll post my comments on how my Blade looks & flies with the Super Skids installed when they finall arrive. I'm Definitely looking forward to it! If you're interested in these skids, order them quick, because heli-direct sells them out really fast.

I bought a pair for my Walkera #4 and they really beefed it up, seemed to make it more stable.
you can also order them directly by sending an email to superskids@maine.rr.com |

I just checked the stock on heli-direct's website, and as for the Blade, they're still in stock. As for other heli's, you may have to wait a bit.

Unless heli-hobby changed their stock, they carry some other type of skids - CNC skids, which cost $60.00, and in my opinion, look like garbage - just makes the CP look ungainly. As for CNC, they look like welded pieces of aluminum, so I'm not sure what is CNC'd on them. Either way, the Super Skids from heli-direct seem to have all the style & functionality, not to mention a killer deal - just can't go wrong at $19.00

Yeah, I would like to avoid more weight, but the super skids have a lot of positives; not only do they look better, but they're stronger & they elevate the tail rotor quite a bit, which is ridiculously low at this point, causing numerous tail strikes. Weight wise, I just can't see 21 grams adding too much strain on the motors, and even if that added weight reduces my flight time, that's just less time for me to crash!! Thanks for the heads up, though!
Megaglow Z - I have seen the CNC dual tail motor setup on heli-hobby's website & heli-directs's website (helihobby.com / helidirect.com). I have no experience with either, so you may want to post a thread and ask someone else. I just burned out a tail motor after 20+ flights, so it may be a good idea - that or a direct drive setup, which sounds equally as good or better. Hope that helps!!

Weight is the key - Blade CP or Esky HB CP with stock set up is maxed out its performance with its weight. Adding more weight to it will affect its flyability one way or the other - tradeoff. If you want to add more weight to it, it might be better to go brushless first.

I have a set of these, some thoughts..
I bought these for the strength first and looks second. I think they are a great tool for learning to hover. I am working on nose in and sometimes you have to ditch an come in hard. They definitely look better.
I'm definitely looking forward to taking them off as the weight affects performance. I used these with the plastiblades and combined additional weight, while flyable, is too much in my opinion. I might try taking these off and just using the plastiblades at some point, but the extra weight of the plasti blades will likely cause more of the stock skids to break. Maybe you can lighten the super skids up, as the boom brace wires are steel with antenna tubes over them. I don't have a scale, anyone know what this component weighs? One question, I used the screws, will the stock skids still fit if I take the super skids off? |

Tommy...
they weigh 38 gms AUW...... I havent noticed too much performance change with mine.....but I'm not trying 3D just yet....the slight change in stablity is noticable......I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and haven't dinged them despite some heavy landings .....you know the ones .....oh crap this is break something gulp type arrivals..... Just adjust the battery and C of G and away again to see if I can get it right his time.....they are a worthwhile purchase IMHO...... Regards Roachie |
