Dave at LightFlightRC.com said to keep the puffed pack and make a 2s pack out of it. (Even said only do this if I can do it safely. )

I'll still be sure to let you guys know when the last pack arrives...

Overall, I'm still happy with the transaction. Just a little dissapointed. It's probably just my luck anyway. But Dave has been great to communicate with. A real stand up guy regardless of these little issues...

For those of you who order from Japan, do you get dinged for duty like ordering from the US?

I prefer to order from Canada but often it's hard to find what you want. Ordering from the US gets a lot of money dinged in handling fees from the couriers and customs.

Thanks

Hi rooster
anything you bring into the country that has a marked value of $20.00 CDN
on the duty packing slip, you will get charged, just the same as from the US.

Yes those are the rules, anything over $20 are subject to import duties and taxes. In addition if Canada Post processes the fee collection, they will charge an extra $5 for their efforts. In reality they do not flag all packages for collection. From my own personal experience I find I get dinged for duity/tax about 1/4 of the time and I find the larger the physical package the greater the chance of it being taxed. I still try to by locally if I can.

Leon.

I have placed several orders with ACW, and the ones that were shipped by regular mail were not charged customs.
This despite having the little customs labels with the correct value listed.
The only time I have been charged was when the shipment was by "EMS".
Perhaps I should order something and see if it still holds true! As good as an excuse as any

Here is a couple of sites I bought from, http://www.rctoys.com/ and http://www.espritmodel.com/

RCtoys has some great combo sales (motors, ESC and lipos) and the shipping is cheap and quick (2 days). And they are from Saskatoon.

Espritmodels is down in Florida, they have great prices, shipping is cheap but it takes about a week or so to arrive.

I have bought from other places but wasn't too happy about thier inflated shipping cost for Canadians.

I'll check out the sites you guys mentioned, always looking for a good deal.

I may be wrong here.. but I was under the impression that hobby stuff was duty free..??? NAFTA and all. I live in the u.s and canada I use to import russian combat engines in to the u.s. and never once had to pay duty (I did have to, by hand engrave 300 engines with "made in russia" before customs would release them to me-- not fun)

It is duty free if the declaration slip is filled out properly, what burns me is the inflated brockerage fees UPS charges, plus the GST and PST. By the time you pay for shipping costs you could end up paying an extra 50.00us for your order.

USPS is the best way to ship.

Does anybody know where I can find a solid CF rod .312" (5/16") Dia. x 24"?

DHC-2T,
Don't forget NAFTA only applies for things Made in North America, it doesn't apply if you're ordering & it's shipped from the U.S., if the origin is Asia or Europe. Most couriers (FEDEX, UPS,DHL) will get you for the brokerage fees when the item is over $20CDN as Kawika explained. Be very careful how it's being delivered.

I only order stuff from the states if they mail it. No more Currier for me too much for the handling fees
The $5.00 handling fee that the post office charges makes me mad too.
I don't mind paying the GST and PST, just not the five bucks.
Oh well most if not all of the stuff I get online is cheaper then at the
local hobby shop. Ebay has some great bargains

Canada Post charges a flat $5.00 fee, in addition to GST and PST of course.
Some things shipped USPS to Canada end up being handled by Purolator. They charge a flat $6 fee + GST/PST.
UPS charges are explained here

What C/L combat classes do you fly?

Received part of my order

I received my 400XT today from Hobby Lobby, my two Rx's are on back order. Shipping took 3 weeks, kinda long but it was only $2.50 so it's good value if you're not in a hurry. The package did not have a import form stuck to it, nor did it get flagged for any Taxes/Duity.

The odd thing is that this package looks like it originated in Hobby-Lobby USA but somehow it was mailed from Sweden! Have a look at the picture.

I can only assume they do it this way to reduce shipping costs. Creative!

Leon.
