Anyone fly Powerlines today? The wind appeared from the NW, tho' light. It was still heavy overcast & cold when I was down that way, midday, so didn't give it try.

Looks like it might be good tomorrow.

Are straight west winds ok? I've never been... Planning to slope my new $50 UMX ASK-21.

West to NW winds work at Powerlines. Anything south of west doesn't work so well.

If the winds are good, I might be out Thurs afternoon. It's time to get back on the slope.

powerlines is open?

Hi All,

I thought powerlines was closed a few years ago. It's been about 6-7 years since I used to fly there, I recall there was trouble with the adjacent land owner.

I remember days so windy there we used ski goggles on our faces and duct taped rocks to the tops of our wings to get them to penetrate.

Cheers

Rick

Greg, I gave your nephew a shout out and we're getting together today to show him a taste of the sloping life. It's supposed to gust to 35 and our hill gets a little ratty in those winds...hopefully the gnarly conditions don't put him off.

Powerlines, at least the north side of the road is open. Pilots can cross the fence to retrieve airplanes. No problem with that.

Thanks Chris. He's also got an old rudder & elevator Windstar powered glider. He probably needs help getting it trimmed out, adjusting the throws etc, if you've got the time and inclination.

Wow! It was blowing like crazy.

I didn't to waste the trip so I ballasted my 66g micro with six quarters taped to the wings (7g each)

I thought the wings were going to fold, and the tail might rip off as I approached the slope... And foolishly threw it off!

It actually flew okay once I was up and out of the turbulence... But was still barely able to make forward progress and ended up getting blown back over the edge of the slope after I tried to maneuver much. Flew for a minute or two. I wish someone was there to have watched it fly in those conditions.

I went out to Power lines about noon and flew my 60" leg warbird around 1pm in 30 to 40 mph wind, then ran some errands and went back by at around 2pm, wind died down a bit and flew a 48" warbird and my retro 60" scratch built. At times I had some huge pumps, fun but wild. Wind chill was around 36 degrees. Where was everybody?

Everyone or anyone - I will be relocating to Denver very soon and was interested in good slope sites. I have a Bee and Le Fish ready to fly. I've read of Zion and Powerlines but have no idea as to where they are. A map would be nice. Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks.
