FlightPower has ceased working with APL from last year. APOGEE has also stop working with them for quite a while. APL used to produce good stuff but things changed since mid of last year. Due to unknown reason, the founding members and key personell left APL within a short periode of time. Since then we have seen endless issues, mostly quality from APL and the customer service sucks big time, a stark contrast to what it used to be.

Others that appear (to me) to be using Kokam cells:

Electrifly/Great Planes
Multiplex

and, of course, as discused in another thread, Orion/Avionics

I think what might work for me is to ID LiPos I graph using generic IDs taken from this thread. If I've linked up the wrong generic cell with somebody's pack, I'd say we'd hear from that somebody pretty quick.

As I see it most vendors want to keep their source(s) a secret if they are getting cells / packs which are a cut above the rest, are in line with others performance but at a really good price ratio (high profit). They also want their source kept a secret if they are selling very low quality cells with major QC issue which are really not suited to most electric flight applications and a few are most likely selling cells from a manufacture which has some kind of exclusivity agreement with another E vendor and the factory is running extra cells and marketing them on the sly.

There are a few vendors who take great pride in their LiPolys and proudly proclaim the source. There are most likely some who would but cannot due to contractual agreements.

Most vendors keep their factory a secret purely because they dont want to be cut out of the deal. I don't think it has much to do with cell quality.
The general theme in business is get the best price, and that means going straight to the source and cutting the middle man out. Which is something the resellers fear.

I am getting dangerously close to getting in trouble here and/or shooting myself in the foot, so I really cannot give out any firm information.

This thread is a good idea though. The same could be done for almost every product in r/c including motors, connectors, wire, besc's etc etc..

W.H.,

Unfortunately, I can’t. I had dozens of previously-tested LiPo cells in my fireplace and I recently disposed of most of them. This might help:

From http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...32&postcount=2

“… this cell appears physically identical to the Dualsky XPower, except that it weighs 3.5 grams less. The distinctive edge crimps, tape and application over the tab roots and the tabs are identical.”

“The IDs stamped on the cells are:
Dualsky - 763496SP 5L17
ESL - 703496P 5L24

Okay, well i have packs here which are SP and P.
SP = 20-30C
P = 15-25C (thats what the factory say anyway)

What is ESL?
Have you got a website or full name?

Mile High RC supplied the ESLs for graphing and sells them. That's all I know.

I called APL in January this year, trying to initiate some business. I talked to one guy (Mr. Ho) who calimed to be the finance manager. After learning my intention, he told me that APL did not manufacture lipo, it only made battery pack and he could introduce me to the lipo manufacturer. That chap called me again few days later and wanted to sell me lipo from his manufacturer. You're right that APL is not a lipo manufacturer. They only build packs.

One thing (dont worry, there is more than one) I dont like about this whole Who makes it" mess is that we as consumers have no clue when a vendor changes sources.

We might buy a pack this week and decide we like it (or see one of RD's graphs) and next week we order another one - and its made from completely differtent cells with different performance characteristics, possibly different weight and or dimensions, different Ir and different capacity, different voltage under load etc etc - and yet it may have the exact same label and shrink on it.

As far as I can tell, virtually every vendor has done this "changing horses in mid stream" thing and told no one.

The only exception I can think of off hand is I have read Charlie Wang coments that he was using a different source of his ProLites from gen II IIRC. At least he re-labeled the packs so you didnt think you were buying the same exact thing.
