New 4 wing Tango AP UAV

Looks like a new UAV called the Tango has just been released. It says it can stay in flight for up to 5 hours.

What kind of issues does one run into having 2 equally sized wings, and no conventional horiz. stab? An interesting way to address wing loading vs. overall size.

Depending on moments you can run in to trouble too. The air off a wing isn't always real clean. Laminar. You can get downwash at high angle of attacks. With a second wing real close to the front wing I can see an ineffective rear wing beginning to happen.

Edited to include,... Holy crap. They boast a Micro pilot 2028 guidance system in the aux package. I bet the reason they say "call for pricing" is because it's going to approach 10 grand to get the full blown deal.

That makes sense. If that is the case, it would be doing the job of the horiz. stab but with the drag and weight of a full wing, while not providing nearly the lift of a full wing by itself. The designs I have seen using 2 full wings have always had the rear wing located quite a bit below the front, maybe to address this problem.

When you see something that is advertised on a web page without a price, you know the price is not going to be cheap.

Looks like a deal where they want your money up front so they can build one to see if it works. Probably trying for DARPA dollars.

The pictures seem to be an artist concept rather than a real model. The snazzy little fins and pointy tip plates are more show than design. The tandem wings provide an opportunity to maximize induced drag.

They claim to have a 400 watt motor with an hours worth of batteries, air frame and basic electronics for a weight of 56 ounces - Dream on!

Looks like a scam to me.

I don't know any details of how all the optional components work but I have seen a short demo video of it flying. Nothing spectacular, just short flybys.

Space_case, Assuming you were referring to me about posting this in different places since you weren't specific, I sure don't see what's wrong with it for this or anything. I've posted about several other products in multiple relevant forums too. If it is appropriate for a forum then why not? What is so wrong about posting something about a plane in a plane forum, however many there are? I like hearing about the latest and greatest technology and telling others about it too. I thought that's what boards are for. Another reason it is helpful to post in other relevant forums is because some people may not visit other forums and may not ever see it otherwise. How else does information get out to inform? I work in a totally different industry and don't care if the thing sells or not!

Yep, I think the same thing. While on a mission, it had better pick up the kids from school and drop by the grocery store for that price!
