Do I have the wrong idea about setting throttle curves?

From what I have read, the maximum rpm that you would want to set your throttle curve to would be the max rpm that your motor can produce at maximum pitch. I'm running two different helicopters with proven motor/pinion/battery combinations and I cannot achieve the same headspeeds as others. The setups are:

Trex, 325 blades, + 10 degrees pitch, Neu 1105, 9t pinion, 4s TP 2100, CC35 max rpm 2370

3DPro, Stock blades, +10 degrees pitch, 400DH, 8t pinion, 3s TP 1320, CC25, max rpm 2000

I have checked both setups on governor high and fixed throttle and obtained the same results. Both of the rotors spin quite freely and there appears to be no excess friction in the drive train. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.

Remove pinion, then check if the ESC light is turning on at full throttle.

I think Toshi's point is to check that 100% on the throttle curve of the TX (or possibly less than 100%) lights the LED on the ESC.
If you cannot get the LED to light when the TX believes it is at full throttle then the ESC is NOT at full throttle - so there may be a lack of power / HS.

I didn't think that you should run a motor at full speed without a load. So, it's ok to do that for a short period?

I just read in another thread that you run the 1105 on 4s. What headspeed do you run and does it bog down at full pitch?

I'm running around 2600 - 2700. I've only ever tacho'd it at zero pitch (doing it on my own, holding heli ... there was another complete thread on this lunacy).

Anyway.. yes you can bog it a little if you do something really agressive - typically it's when I'm trying to recover from some kinda 3D mess up and it's heading for the deck at speed. But in general... no it maintains that HS.

The TP2100 is very good as well... I only see the 'bogging' with the old PQ 1800s which I think are 12C -16C... I just don't think they can deliver the amps when it really gets tough.

I'm running basically what you state - 9t, 325 pros, HS56s on cyclic, 401 and 9650. Kontronik Jazz ESC
