Groucho,

You can't go wrong with a 2212-6 2200kv motor, 30A ESC and APC 6X4E prop, using a 3S 1300 - 2200 lipo. The motors can be found at various sources such as Grayson, BP, LightFlight, AeroModel, RC Hot Deals, RC Timer, etc.

I really like Grayson Hobby's price for that motor, but I'm concerned by the emphasis on speed in their product description: "Reaching 80 mph is no problem for this setup." I want to fly at half that speed.

Then only run it at half throttle! This motor is a great match for this plane. My dad built one and it runs great. You can slow it down pretty well and if you want, run it up and do some nice high speed passes.

Agreed, these fly nice and slow with partial throttle. In fact, with a small breeze you can hover!

Got my F-15 done. First time I put a clear canopy and pilot on one of my planes. I like it. Maybe it will fly better. Anyway here it is. It weighs in at about 20 to 25 ounces. It's from Steve Shumate plans, Thanks Steve. Although I did make it slightly larger. 32" wingspan and about 48" long. Any and all comments would greatly be appreciated.

I was looking at a 2212 motor for a 120% scale. I think its a bit excessive on a park flyer for slow speed football fields, but I can understand people wanting the power. I figure on a bigger scale, I'll be forced to fly a bigger field also, so then I can justify the extra power. So Im thinking of the 1400kv or so 2212 size. Its a slower KV so less pitch speed, but static thrust will still be there. what do you guys think?

Thankfully, someone invented the throttle stick along the way...

I know, I know I just didn't think that learning to fly a new plane while only using a small part of the stick travel would be fun. I think I'll go with the 2212 and experiment with the Travel Adjust feature on my TX.

it might feel fast, but i dont think mine goes much over 60mph with a2212 6x4 22oz auw. still slows to a crawl very nicely tho and can fly it round me in 20m circles, go to high alpha then punch it vertical, great fun.

im getting mine ready for flight its not been flown for a while and i gutted it,gonna give it a new paint job maybe the aggressor ones and try to make a clear pit, that sets them apart and makes the model i think, it kills me every time i did a low pass that it was just foam grrr.

It's the marker for the air-to-air refuelling receptacle.

65% f-15

Hi Everyone

I built this 65% version towards the end of last year, but have only had a few chances to fly her due to windy weather. The paint job is still a work in progress and is inspired by the Active Eagle research plane. Due to weight constraints, I decided to keep things simple on the paint front.

I used 3 mm depron throughout, although it would probably have been better to have used 6 mm depron for the wings. The nose and bottom has been covered with 50 g/m^2 glass fiber to cater for those less than ideal landings

Motive power is provided by an AXN1800N outrunner and provides approximately 150g of thrust on a 450 mAh 2 cell LiPo. As this is my first powered plane (only flown slopies and DLG's before this), I will only step up to 3 cell LiPo's once I have flown her a bit more.

So far I am very happy with this plane, and will probably build a 65% version of the Grippen. Thanks for the great plans.

Regards,
Imraan

Imraan,

That's right about the size of the plane I will be selling on my website (see posts 2928, 2931 and 2932). I too use the 1806N 2500kv motor. On 3S, it loves a GWS 4530 prop and is pretty quick.

The only difference with mine is that it is taileron only, no ailerons.
