Yeah it was getting pretty tough to navigate the old thread. Have to leave town today but should be back by Friday and working on the bird.

Steve - I have almost completed your F15 design from a 6mm Fly RC kit. The plane went together great and am pleased with it except it looks like it's going to weigh in the vicinity of about 19+ oz. This is with an eflite park 370-5400 motor and GWS "C" gearbox with an APC 9 X 6 SF prop. The servos are eflite S75's. The battery is an Thunderpower 2100 3 cell lipoly. I didn't make any modifications so am a little puzzled why my weight exceeds the recommended 15-18 oz. Maybe it's the battery. My question is this: Do you think my F-15 will fly o.k with the projected weight of 19+ oz considering my power set-up? Would appreciate your response. Thanks

ejohn--Glad you like it! Yes, your excess weight is mostly the battery. The TP2100 weighs 5 oz, compared to only 3 oz for a TP 1320. Thus, your all-up weight would be only 17 oz with the lighter battery, which is right in line with the recommendations. But no worries, many guys have flown this model at weights even higher than 19 oz and report it flies just great. Especially since you've got a pretty powerful motor and battery. So your model should fly just fine as is. In fact, I've seen guys flying this model at AUWs near 25 oz with good results! Of course the model is not as much of a small field flyer at those weights, but if you got a larger field it can handle it.

Steves right about the weight.Mine have weighed 20-21 oz and fly fine.My first one weighed 27oz and still flew!

Steve your'e right on! I fly mine with Axi 2212/26 with a polyquest 3s 2600mah pack. Not heavy at all - flies great!
Btw how will that motor work in the bandit?

Whooooooowee! I just read this entire thread, all 175 pages. What an informative thread. I can tell you that this will definately be on the list to build after completeing the T-38. Although, one question. I am going to use a Just go fly 400DF @ 3000kv in a 3.89 gear box, turning a 7x6 - 10x10 APC prop with 11.1v 2100mah 15C Li-poly, how do you think this will perform in the F-15?

Motor Question

Hi,

I'm almost finished with building my F-15.

I'm at a calculated weight of 480 g (17 Oz ??)
280 g with servo, without receiver and powersystem.


my hobbyshop recommended the following powersystem:

Lemon-RC 1700 (12 C) - 3s/1p

E-Flite Park 400 AL - 740 KV
E-Flite BL 20
Prop 9*6 APC SlowFly or E



are there any experiences with a setup like this?

Hey Barny, looks like we're going to use the same setup. I'm in the final stages of the build and hope to fly it Saturday or Sunday. I'm coming out a lot heavier at around 24oz gross with everythhing in. I think I went a little crazy with the paint. Going to try the 400 first but my son wants me to kick it up with a 2808 and a 9X5 or 9X6 and put it in afterburner mode. I'm just a little more conservative. Anyway I'll let you know what happens.

Bernard,that motor kv of 740 is a bit low for these.You want one with a minimum kv of 840 (Axi 2212-26) or a Hyperion Z2213-20 1025kv or Hacker A20-20l 1022kv.

I understand that with the higher kV I get more RPM.

But what are the consequence regarding Motor-Runtime, Motor-Temperature
Thrust, Pitch-Speed. Vertical?


In the long run, I would like to build also the other planes from steve (jetset44) especial the F-14 and the Super-Bandit.

Is this Power-Setup also good for this?

So many decision, an nowhere near enough know-how on my side.

I'd like to help, but MotoCalc doesn't have the E-Flight Park 400 motors in it's database and I don't know the specs to enter them myself. To enter them, I'll need to know kV (which you've already provided), resistance, and no-load current. Otherwise, you'll have to rely on published test results (search Ezone) or on others that have experience with those motors.
