my new helmet cam Photo and movie

I bought a cheap Helmet or hard hat for 9.99, drilled a hole thru the top, there was a dimple like a mold mark that was perfect center, bolted My Nikon 3700 to the tripod hole in the bottom of the camera which I have been filming with the last few movie and the helmet has a rachet for the head liner to tighten up so it doesn't move, they had a cheaper one for 6.00 but it didn't have a way to tighten it up as good.
Heres the last movie I made with the Nikon of Docs P51,

Heres a test movie I made with the camera bolted to the top of the helmet, I was moving way to fast and it was very over cast but you can get a Idea that where I looked the camera Filmed, Now I can fly at the same time as the other guys and film at the same time

Heres a photo of it that I had to take in a mirror since I didn't have another cam

Thats a cool idea Steve. I might give it a try. What is the set up on that P-51. Batt-Motor-Prop. I liked the way she moved.

That set up was a GWS 350 C gear with 9070 Prop 3 Cell Lipoly and GWS300 ESC flying at about half to 5/8 throttle
It flys all most as well with a 2 cell, we clocked the same plane level flight at 46 MPH in the summer
Thats Doc's plane, he flew a small TM with a 350 C Gear for 3 or more months but we never really kept track of the ammount of actual air time but it was at least 20 to 30 times he flew and it stilkl is running , Doc is going to continue flying with the 3 cell to see if this motor burns up on the P 51 with a 3 cell, after the TM w/350 3 cell I am begining to think every thing I read about 3 cells burning up on a 3 cell wasn't quite right, we have 20 or 30 extra motors we picked up so it really doesn't matter if it does
The one thing I see is no matter a 2 cell or 3 is they both get hot if ran full throttle and full throttle only gains about a ounce or so more thrust but drains the c Capacity and amps for very little more speed gain

The breathing sound over powers a lot, I have a 90 to 95 percent blockage in my sinus's most days, the cam picks that up and thats another reason the helmet will be better in a lot of ways, my mouth which I breathe thru because I can't breath thru my nose really comes on loud

Never to cold ray, we fly all winter long as long as the wind is below 10 MPH or 14 K a hour or so./ and the temp is above 20 F or in cel minus 12
People miss a lot of time not flying in the winter

Best time to fly here. Heat brings high winds in the Smokeys.

I have a heavy Movie Cam corder that will also mount but I see yours is a lot smaller, I will have to put a chin strap on so if I tilt my head back it won't fall off and break the cam.
Its nice when you can film and fly at the same time and I find the helmet cam gets most of the movie where by eye you loose the plane looking thru the little view finder, The only thing I find is the take off the ground I miss it untill its in the air, I guess I could learn to look or tilt my head down further on the take off and get the take off better
I like mine a lot
I have studied a lot of your Info Ken, you have helped me a lot
Now I know what I can do with those GWS stickers

Five suggestions for an Airborne Video Camera System.

Suggestion 1 is... That the Airborne Camera contain a circuit board that allows it to be plugged into a normal servo outlet for the purpose of switching the camera on and off. This plug should also supply power to the camera.

Suggestion 2 is... That the airborne unit has integeral mounting lugs to allow easy mounting.

Suggestion 3 is...That the ground unit consist of a receiver, enough memory for at least one hour of video recording and a 7 inch or larger LCD screen for instant replay.

Suggestion 4 is... That the ground unit has a threaded hole in it to allow it to be mounted on a normal camera tripod. This will raise the unit to eye level for easy viewing, improve the reception of the video signal and lessen the chance of damage to the ground unit by making it larger and more visible.

Suggestion 5 is... That the LCD screen has a folding shroud to enable better viewing in bright sunlight.
