Simple FFF Corsair
having only a couple of planes left still running brushed motors, i
decided to replace one i've had for quite some time. my fff TLAR
sort of slow stick. it has always been a great flyer, but was getting pretty heavy
from many repairs. always loved the lines of the gull wing corsair, so
this is what it led to. now granted, it's not as pretty as one of vyceroys
beautiful birds. however, it was a very easy build and looks quite nice in the air.
flys like it's on rails ... i really like it. the only mods i made to the plans was
to use the higher wing cutout (plans have 2 wing cutouts on them) i
did this so i could use the side fuse crutches. and the simple cowl ring is just a piece of split fff
taped together, but i think it adds a lot to the looks. don't remember offhand what size the actual
plans were, but i settled on 30'' wingspan

j250 in gws gearbox
"C" gearing / gws 1047 prop
830 2s lipo pack
AUW 6.9 oz w/o battery pack
underside pic shows how the lower skewer brace worked great for attaching landing gear.
wing was not hard at all.i just used a rolling pin to put a little under camber in it. i worked with the wing as one whole piece.
dihedral and anihedral (spelling ??) was easy. cut approx. 1/2 way through the wing with
metal ruler and exacto, where each wingtip slants upward (2) and one
slit the same way in the middle of the wing (ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE WING)
where the wing angles downward. place at the edge of a counter and snap. you can then fill the gap you opened up with hot glue or epoxy.
a small fff angle template is needed to hold shape til glue sets.

Real nice looking! RET? I was thinking of building one from those plans, but thought it would have to have ailerons too. Could you rake a pic head on so we could see the wing angles? Never mind, I see it on the plans.
How does it fly compared to other RET foamie planes from plans here in the foamie threads? ( Like the SLB. STC, Togs bird dog, ect)

i always wondered how the gull wing flew .... and i can tell you, it is great. very, very stable. my brother spotted it right away and his eyes lit up. he was in the marines in korea where they were totally surrounded at the chosen resevoir. he said they would call in air strikes, and 4 or 5 corsairs would come through narrow mountain passes flying on a knife edge, firing napom and 50 cal. rounds. he said they saved their butts many times. i am sure you would be very happy with the handling qualities.

How much of an undercamber did you put in? Something like Gene's 4/40 famous slow flight foil?


How about a 20 turn cd on 2 cells with something like a 9050 or 9070 prop. I also have a couple of 17 turn Lensrc cd motors that should haul a 9oz plane around well.

I'm in the middle of trying a 40" WS Piper Pawnee FF profile, when I saw this one. Now I have to work on two at once! LOL-- can't fly much anyhow now because of the blizzard we just had, so I'll build some more till spring.

Just have to remember which program I used to blow up and tile the last 3 view. Got 4 or 5 downloaded and can't remember which one worked good.. It's tough to get old!!!

Good to see you finally got some time to post this one. It's definately a keeper. flies very well for a simple RET plane. Now if the wind would just quit. I haven't flown in forever!

i use tile print. it is a good program that i purchased from an e zoner for 12.95 several years ago. as good as mine flies on the j 250 motor, i'm sure it would be super withB/L motor. i have 5 planes now equipted with GB.com motors . all are 15 turn with 8040 prop.this is a great combo for 2 cell lipo.

According to the forecast, I think it can! Although this evening looks good. If I can, I may swing by and grab you to go do some ROG videos of this one and the Hyper-Bipe Hope the school lots are empty around 3:30-4:00...

What , no tiled plans .... ??? We don't all have a nice tileprint program that enlarges these little offerings....what should we do ???
