ROG = Rise Off Ground. Not a stupid question at all.

Roll off Ground

You don't know until you hear it once. Roll off ground. They use ROW for float planes but I don't know what the R stands for in that one, (Rise?) Mike
Maybe both are Rise but I have heard a number of people say roll off ground for take-offs. So your question may have taught me something!

Bill,
ROG stands for Rise Off Ground.
Typically this means the aircraft has landing gear and can take off under it's own power ( unassisted ).

A typical question for the category : Things-you-always-wanted-to-know-about-modelling-but-were-afraid-to-ask

(I've been guessing on the meaning of ROG/ROW for a while myself.. Nice to see I wasn't that far off )

Or if you're talking about AMA magazine covers, it stands for Real Old Guy (usually launching a twig and tissue walnut scale free-flighter).

Motion is relative. From my perspective my model was flying level and the ground jumped up towards it.

Or, in certain dire cases, COG (Crash On Ground)
