Guys ... its does not matter if the motor is in front or at the back ... if it points UPWARDS you got UP THRUST, if it points DOWNWARDS its DOWN THRUST. The term is correct.

Just ordered a FJ too, together with 2 lipo's 3S 2200mah 20-30C and a 30A ESC.
I only have difficulties deciding which motor and prop to buy. So many good choices

Can someone help me out and make the choice for me??

Downthrust

The problem with every single post so far is they are consider what is done with the MOTOR.

Motors don't generate thrust! Propellers do!

The only thing relevant is the plane of the propeller disc. The propeller works exactly the same whether it is a tractor or a pusher. You position the motor such that the thrust from the propeller is in the direction you want. Up, down, left, right.

However, I agree with one of the first posts from Gene Bond. You are going to get a different effect depending on whether the propeller disk is ahead of the CG or behind the CG.

I am happy with the Medusa 028-040-2500 with an APC 6x4e - Plenty fast but does not chew up allegedly 20C packs as fast as some of the hotter motors. A 30A ESC would not be enough.... it needs at least a 35A, and possibly a 45A to be safe on a hot afternoon.

A Mega 16/15/4C with the same prop should do OK with the special order "combat" version with the thicker 5mm shaft (rather than the 3.2mm) for $10 USD more, even a bad landing is not going to break the motor. The /3 would be faster but suck more electrons, even with the 5.5x4.3 prop. See about mid-page here: http://www.megamotorsusa.com/Shoppin...s+ACn16+Series

I have a Warp4 in another plane and while they are about 60% of the price of a Mega, I have had to reglue the endbell 2X and the shafts are more bendable. Plus, it does not seem to be as efficient as the Mega so more of the pack's charge goes into heating up the universe.

Both the Graupner and APC props have worked well for me. I have several MAS props and they never seem to be as efficient as the other two.

Speed costs money - more speed costs cubic money.

You have to alter the motor to alter the prop angle. I think we all know that.

And again you are saying exactly the same thing as I mentioned posts ago.

Lets get away from this topic as I think its been done to death.

done to death? noooo... it must live on.

The biggest issue is with communication skills. Its no good saying 'its the same' or 'pointing up'. With reference to what?? Thats why I did a crappy little illustration so there was no question which direction I meant. And every reply could be interpreted differently depending on the perspective one takes.

I use a mega 16 15 4 with a system like yours. I think you should try the apc 6-4E and also the apc 6-5.5. I tried the 5X props and didnt have the performance to match the 6X props.
I just got my second funjet together last night, it has a little screamer park jet motor, and a 1450 3s lipo 23C. It comes in a little over three ounces lighter even tho I painted this one. These motors are available from Hobby Lobby and are able to handle the apc 6-5.5 prop with under 18 amps

Please let us know your results with the LSPJ motor as compared to the Mega. I am waiting on my FunJet from Tower and was considering powering with the LSPJ (among others) but had not yet seen any reports from anyone that had tried it.

Did the LSPJ mount on the outside of the black tail cone like most other outrunners?

FunJet LSPJ

Here is a photo of an LSPJ on my FunJet -- will fly tomorrow hopefully! Must figure out what prop I want to use.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attac...mentid=1064026

I doubt an LSPJ compares to a Mega?

I'm not having a good time with the LSPJ so far. The packaging claims 18.5A on a 6x5, however WattsUp is clocking 26A on a lesser 6x4. I had to prop down to a 4.75x4.5 to get 185W (the product's max ratting) @ 15.4A. Tomorrow she flies!

Oh I tried that one too... over 27A for me. I don't know! Maybe in-flight will make all the difference, but 33% would be a tremendous drop.

How would a Neu 1110/2Y (2500KV, 4oz) perform on the FunJet on 4s?

Are you using the lspj that has the hot wind from Hobby Lobby?
As you probably know they had a recall notice because they were wound hot.
Those are to use a smaller prop.
The motor that they replaced it with is supposed to handle that 6-5.5 prop.
I will run mine on wattsup and see what I get when I get a chance

I have both. I need to test the hot wind to see if there was a change...
Well hopefully the FJ LSPJ testing goes okay this morning! Apparently I
need to be careful about sub-optimal cooling the way it is mounted.

update: on a 4.75x4.5C it flew about the same as a 400DF. Nice and
quite, it scoots along but no sustained vertical. With a TP2100-3PL,
it makes for a light FunJet that's quite easy to fly and land. LSPJ has
the advantage of weighing 17 grams less. If I could mount the thing
without the FJ's heavy plastic cowl mount, then I could balance with
a TP1320-3PL.

Still have to check the MicroLogger data to see if a larger prop is okay.

Oh, I got to entertain a whole kindergarten class or two today out at the
park! That's the best...
