Removeable wings?

Does the Acro Master have removeable wings or are they glued into place?

Wings are removable...

I got a look at the kit and at the flying model(prototype) at Sinsheim model show. Despite the strong wind it perfomed relatively well. It is nicely designed, although it is relativley heavy compared to depron or balsa constructions. The mere airplane, e.g. just the foam with the wing connecting rod, is about 400g. I think the power set as proposed by Multiplex is overweight also. A 45amp esc with 3200Kokam is overkill for a 350W motor, even if it is as heavy as 150g .

I think, using well chosen components one can get the weight down to maybe 800g.

Weight

While a heavy plane is generally not considered good, I'm hoping that it is much more robust than Depron and balsa planes, making it worth it. I have two questions about the affect of weight:

1 - Does a heavier plane make it more stable in higher winds? Or is wind stability more a factor of engine speed, torque, or plane size? If weight helps a lot, that too would be a big advantage since most small models can only be flown in relatively low winds, thus limiting flying time - especially for flyers like me that can only fly on Saturdays.
2 - Does the heavier wing loading mean that the minimum speed will be higher than, say, a 25 oz plane?

Thanks,

Alan

You could bite the bullet and order it early from Europe. http://www.modelspot.com/

That's how to get a months earlier than waiting for it to come to the US. It will cost more, and you will pay more for postage.

They are already taking preorders:

Airflow for battery

Jurgen,

From your fuselage foam pictures, it appears that the battery compartment is under the canopy which is very handy. I see some air inlets in the front-bottom, but I don't see any air outlets behind the battery. With this much current, how will the battery stay cool?

Thanks,

Alan

Enlarged to show texture?

Hey, have you ever noticed pictures of cookies or cereal on the front of the box with a little note on the bottom that says "product enlarged to show texture"?

Take a look at the pic on the web site that is selling the AcroMaster. If the plane is 45" long and it's longer than the pilot, then the pilot must be around 40" tall!

Either that or it's enlarged to show texture (detail)!

A big shop that sells a lot of Multiplex ( www.hoelleinshop.com ) told me they won't be for sale at Dortmund yet...
Other questions: wings are removable, and yes higher weight/wingloading is a plus in high winds for small models.
On the other hand the Acromaster has a low wingloading (25 gr/dm2) if you compare it to a Hyperion Yak 55 (36 gr/dm2) which has almost the same size.
Athough the Yak is a balsa ARF with less AUW the wingload is higher because of the smaller wings.
I really think the Acromaster is a well thought design and a great almost unbreakable Pattern/3D trainer.
