Anyone done Kevlar thin goop'd to EPP?

Trying to find a way to strengthen my LEG while it's in pieces, seems like it would work good for tensional forces... maybe just for the most common breakage area... somewhere between the LE and nose of EPP planes... or the whole bottom of the fuse for that matter. Then use CF rods more near the top of the fuse to hold the compressive forces.

I'm doing a little test right now(drying) to see how tough it is. The kevlar I'm using is somewhere around 1.5-3oz/sq-yrd. It wetted out great with the thinned goop!

Anyone experimented with this?

As long as it sticks after it's cured (Goop cures by evaporation so hopefully
the Kevlar doesn't just soak up all the Goop leaving nothing to adhere
it tothe EPP), and doesn't fuzz up at the edges, it should
work ok. I haven't tried it, since my supply of Kevlar cloth is pretty
limited. Reminds me, I should order some more from ACP.

Its been done. it tends to wrinkle, like on the nose, and you cant shrink the wrinkles out with heat.

Yea, that makes sense that you couldn't shrink it back down. Perhaps if you used it between the two fuse halves near the bottom edge. I may try that on my next ones.

Ian, you're right about the evaporation, I had to go back and squeegee in a non-thinned coat into the kevlar... the thinned stuff was too thin to fill the weave of the kevlar after evaporation.
