Question
4 in 1 not arming until after several connects to the battery.

For some reason my 4 in 1 is not arming properly until the battery has been connected for several minutes. Multiple disconnects and reconnects later it finally arms. Anybody? ideas? replace it?

I have the same problem! I have to resort to tapping the 4in1 so that it can arm.
Once in a while, the heli would just drop while flying because the 4in1 shutdown!

I would think that there must be a loose connection. Check your plugs and make sure they are pushed in all the way.

same here, but for me it's because of the temp out side, i get frequency drift in the Illinois weather at present. (confermed with scope) inside it works great, take it out side last 1 maybe 2 min then drops.

I will take it apart when I get home and see if there are any cold solderings on the board. Might even make an experiment to hit it with the hair dryer before connecting the battery to see if it is heat related.

Sure it's not xtal related, common...

How is it blinking when it does not arm?

Normal procedure is blinking red, blinking green, steady green.

Does it keep blinking red or green or does it start to alternate red/green.

It it starts to blink red/green this is either a sign of no radio contact or that your throttle or throttle trim is not lowered completely.
No radio contact might be loose xtals, damaged xtals or bad batteries in tx.

As buda suggests it might be caused by a comfortably enclosed warm Tx crystal trying to control a very exposed thus quickly cooling Rx crystal??

My problem goes away when I remove the canopy. So this crystal is the problem?

I turn on the TX and then fire up the cx. The lights keep blinking red/green and some time the servos move just a tad but it never goes to solid green until after a bunch of reconnects of the battery, then suddenly I see the servos centering and the light goes solid green. It is weird. Once it is armed it will never loose it, I can even change battery and start it up again without any problems. Maybe it is my radio controller that is the problem.. Should maybe take it down to hobbytown and see if we can get it to arm with a different tx.

Hey, Tintin just noticed your location.. I'm originally from Göteborg, Sweden. Lived in the US for over 15 years by now though.

Thanks for all the input guys. I will dig in it a little more when I get home tonight.

I now have figured out that it is heat related.... I took the front body off and started flying and the tx lost connection with in the minute. Did the same thing again and the tx yet again lost the connection. I put the front body back on and it flew just fine. The down wash is cooling off the 4 in 1 and shuts down. Calling horizon.
