The climb, I find disappointing. I need a new GB. Overall. I did not attempt anything fancy. My Dcam is low on batt

The Piper Cub stood it's flight course even though the wind was blowing 9/12 mph. The only problem that I encounter is the Sun, directly in my flying direction

More Input Please!!!

Genovia,

Was that a mild statement of disappointment? In those kinds of winds you may have not gotten a good feel for the plane yet.

Did you get to fly long enough to gain some altitude. It looks like it in one of the pics. How is the turning? Flat? Does the nose drop?

How does it handle slowing up to land?

I think it looks great against the blue sky!

More Info,

I'm suprised at your disappointment. I love flying mine!

My setup

Dymond 480 geared 2.5
APC 8x6e prop
8 cells of 600AE

I don't remember my AUW.

I hand launch mine and wheel land on grass. The grass is a little
to rough for ROG, I play heck keeping it straight until flying speed
is reached.

Tip of the Wing

bztguy,

Did you add the washout in the wingtip in the picture, or is that just how it looks in the pic?

Un-intentional washout caused by shrinking of monokote.
It works for me!

genovia, congrats on flying her! You've beat me to it. I've had recommended to me a gearbox in the mid 2:1 range... preferably 2.33 or 2.5:1, so hopefully that will help the climb angle. I love your pictures

I AM BACK AND HAPPY The climb was remarkable, remarkable is how I will describe the punch that I have gotten from the Cub's power and climb. After this mornings flight. Disappointed on the way the Cub was climbing. I went straight to a near LHS to purchase a set of GB.

Dreamer, I bought the 2.5 and BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!! She picks up speed in no time. I will post lot's of pictures next time. My photographer had an appointment, with her Hairdresser

Roger, hey Bud!!!! I'm Happy now. I know there was something lacking. It was the GB.

bztguy,

I am using Top Flite 9x5 prop. I broke my wings twice, bonked nose first on my other Cub, but find the prop. still intact. Best believe that, strange

MAN, I love Piper Cub's , This Herr Piper Cub airplane is, I think the best in it's production, it's easy to build and fun to fly. *Note secure your power system extra, extra tight. Loops and snaps, are great

Modification made: Battery hatch

Wow Genovia,

That didn't take long!!

You are so fortunate to be able to go to a LHS and pick up something like that and fly the same day. I'm pleased you got it really going. That 2.5:1 must be a good unit. Who makes it? and the cost is? Do you have a part #?

Never been there

I have heard of that shop before. If I ever get up there to fly, I would like to stop in there too.

I read a thread on the windy conditions. This is the windiest I can remember here in this part of the Central Valley. The foothills are only 9 miles to the East and the winds usually have lifted to go over the Sierra. This year they seem to come out of the North.

I'm thinking it must be connected to the El Nino waters heating up again. I don't know how, but there must be a tye-in.

The up side is that the AC is not on!!!

Need to get back to the wing on the other balsa project. Generic is flying fine now. So I'll try to get some work done on it.

Well, I must say that I just won one Herr Engineering J3 Piper Cub of 48 inch wing span!

Can't wait to get it considering the options one has today with power systems, including Brushless Motors and lets not forget the Brushed Power System that the Hobby Zone Super Cub comes with (Brushed 480 Brushed geared)!!
