S.E. 5A - Scratch Built

This is an S.E.5A that local gentleman built entirely from scratch. He
lovingly drew the plans (fullsize - 3 sheets), ripped the wood required
from balsa/hardwood blocks, and finished it up to about the 95% point
(shaping and sanding done as well).

Other things in his life became a reality, hence I came to own this
pristine one-off example of the WW-I biplane. At 46" wingspan it is
perfect for electric flight, and given the ample control surface area
would be a rather nimble flyer. He orignally intended it for glow, but
the way he built it and the existing hatches that are present make it a
no-brainer conversion.

I am not much for this era of aircraft, but when I first saw it and
understood its pedigree I bought it for myself amongst the rest of the
aircraft he had in his valuable collection to just look at. The ribs/longerons/etc are placed such that when it is covered it will be very appealing to the
(scale) eye. It is designed and built to in light.

The cabanes and unique gear are built and installed, the radiator is
hand-built from hardwood and beautifully demonstrates the man's
craftsmanship and attention to detail. I have admired it on my wall for
the last 6 months.

I have elected to pass this on to someone who would do it justice, so
the first $250 (you can make offers) I will ship it. Although I pinned the empannage and wings on for the pics, it would be easily be packed in one of the composite sailplane cartons I have on hand. I even possess a lightweight wooden crate (from a sailplane manufacturer in Europe - nicely built in itself) that would be perfect for it.

If folks want specific pics, let me know...
