Thanks for the compliment warren!
I went to swansea in the arvo and I show up and there's another guy with a bat as well! Black one with green eyes. Can't remember the name of the guy.
These things are breeding around here! When i threw mine off there the wind was still a bit easterly and it went DOWN..... I let it go down to build up speed (about 2/3rds of the way down and when i pulled it back around it came right back up again to land on the top in a nice downwind landing!!!
Did someone say speed retention? I honestly thought i was trekking

Cheers
Paul

Hey Paul.
Benno and I went to Launchpad this arvo. It went off in that southerly. The Extreme Bat was just ballstic!! Its just so hard to fault!!
Big news!! Benno smashed his M60 after his lost control from a massive dive after speccing it!! We think the force got to much for the servo to move the servo!! It was screaming down and he couldnt pull it out without it turning. He tried to counter it but couldnt pull it out in time. He skimmed the ROAD and hit the embankment (after it turned back through the DS zone out of control!!!). I must have been going close to 200km/h!! The fuse is totalled but the wing is still repairable.

Yeah, i saw the wind whistle by whilst i was at work
Benno the destroyer!! did he hit the road behind the slope ?
Sounds like the prob that daemon had with his one. Maybe the servos are stalling? with the speed of these things? maybe 6 volts needed?

I had exactly the same thing happen (terminal dive, couldn't pull up, rolled to the right and turned into the hill at 100-120mph), but I don't think it was the servo maxed out (although it could be, depending on what servo you use), but was the mounting of the servo in the wing. I potted my servos, and they feel really nice and snug (snap solidly into place), but I only taped them down. I'm 99% sure that during a ballistic dive (ballasted at that), the aerodynamic force on the elevons was strong enough that when the servos tried to counter it, they pulled themselves loose from the wing (I've got 6v battery so my HS85MGs have gobs of torque). On my new M60, I used some hot melt glue on the sides of the servo to bond it to the pot, and now it's very very solid (but can still be cut loose if needed).

Since then I've DSed it, and yesterday had some 500-600 foot vertical dives and felt no softening of the elevator response. Now it's possible that with lower voltage or lower torque servos you could max em out, but I'd focus on the mounting of the servo first.

That's good to hear. On mine the wing spar shattered and 2 or 3 of the slugs in my ballast tube took the end of the tube completely off and ejected themselves straight through the wing, and servo, leaving nothing but a dangling wire behind.

Ming, you guys have got some great hills to play with, outstanding stuff! It looked like a great days racing.

On another subject, do you know the wing area of the bat? Mine weighed in at 930 grams and was curious of the wing loading of it.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks ming, i think that makes mine have 10oz wing loading.

The same calculation makes Alkoos 1.6kg bat have an 18.5 oz loading!!. Is that correct? My maths is not very good

Have you seen photos of my bat yet in the other post?

here is a video of my wild wing cut really deep modified by me to fly more stable, no more stalls and quicker turns with more control, 108mph top speed maybe 110 with a new battery.

here is the video

Dude, yeah nice wing, but it's not a bat. what made you post it here?

P.s a loaded bat (with no motor) would see your 108 mph (110 with new batterys) and fly on by
