New life for Walkera DF4

Hi guys
Just a quick post to let you all know that the Venom Nightranger II
is pretty well identical to the DF4 mechanically. I partially rebuilt my DF4 using Venom parts. Swash has brass ball in it, and main shaft has a C clip to hold it in place. Much better.
The balls on the swash that go to the servo's are a tad smaller, so Venom links need to be used. Aside from that, everything is the same. Even the canopy except for color and decals.
I have also gotten a heavy duty landing gear kit that fits perfectly with NO mods from here http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...roducts_id=826
I did 2 alterations to the kit, though not really needed, I feel they really finished the kit off.
Firstly I removed the carbon rods from the kit that the battery holder hangs off, and replaced these with coat hanger wire that I cut to length with a dremel. Fits much more snugly and wont move unless you push with a reasonable force. So now battery will not slide all over the place on carbon rods. A big part of the reason I got the LG kit is to do away with carbon rods.
The other mod I did was to remove the fake boom supports, which incidentally are wire with a loose plastic sleeve. Fart and they will bend lol. No big deal as they arent supposed to be structural. What I replaced them with is aluminium boom supports from a Shogun that I cut to length, re-crimped the ends, and re-drilled new holes. I gave both the boom supports and the coat hanger wire a quick rub with Brasso to make em look purdy lol.
Next step is Like 90 blades, GWS main motor and GWS direct drive tail, heatsinks on both. Waiting for the mailman to bring this stuff lol.
For $19.99US I would highly recommend the landing gear kit.
They also make one for the Honey Bee CP2 here http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...roducts_id=826
The pic isnt my heli, its a promo pic from the manufacturer.
So if you dont want to order always from Ebay for your DF4 parts, go local and get Venom parts. If your sick to death of busting landing gear and battery movement, then get the LG kit and make the small effort to use the coat hanger mod, as I feel its time well spent doing it.
Hope this has helped someone out and maybe saved some grief

Here is a pic of my heli as it stands now unfinished. Never mind the ugly green paddles, they are printed on colors not stickers unfortunately lol.

Hi Gord
Im running a 4in1 from a Twister CP. Has adjustable gyro gain and revo as well. Something the Walkera 3in1 was sorely lacking.
If I go brushless I will buy a complete belt drive chassis kit and use the Himax 2015 4200kv and a PH10 that I have in my 3d Pro at the moment.
The chassis kit is about $85US. Lots easier to setup lol.
Think I'd just sell my bird as is RTF if that was the case.
What kind of flight times do you get, and what battery are you running?
Cheers

You know, I've never really timed them lol

Im using 1000Mah 10c in one and 1800Mah in the other, both 11.1V. Works well.

Well, Ive tried to fly it.....not a happening thing.
Ive got the GWS 300 main motor and direct drive tail, 12 tooth pinion on main.
Spool up, gets light, more throttle= major fluttering sound and vibration from main blades, no extra lift. this is just over half throttle
Not sure what to do now. This is with stock blades. I see that the Century carbons are on sale for $33, should I go for those or the Like90's?
Any difference in flight performance?
Sigh, tedious little heli's lol.

If your motor is new, I'd say your battery is gone. What battery are you using?

Batteries are "Artech" 2s 1800mah, got em from Ebay of course lol.
I dont think its the problem though as the 4in1 has a green amber and red light to signal esc load, and red comes on just after 3/4 stick, so to me this would mean that it is getting the charge to do that.......yes??
I also fly a Slo-V stick type plane with the same batteries and they work fine.
A bit lost now lol.
Help!
