Hi Pappy,

I've not built the larger 'XL' version, but joining the wings can be done as the original Puddle twin, I'm sure, make a 1/16" or 2mm balsa joiner either side of the mainspar, like the conventional built up balsa wings with spars and ribs. I guess you have read the puddle thread to look at those pictures?

i made up my mind and i am not going to spend time putting spars and ribs together. I go the "hot wire" way!!!
Saves from a lot of trouble!!! I will cut the wing in two pieces then assemble them and then cut the pieces to give the dihedral (it's 5 degrees if am not mistaken ....right?).

To tell you the truth i didn't find the thread

Now i know why this plane is so popular!!!!

The plans of this plane are so exact and so well designed that if you just hold your cutter straight and you don't have trembling hands the pieces mach 100% each other!!!

Excellent videos Sir! Now that's my kind of flyingboating, nice to see so many folks out celebrating your liberation day on the 5th.
That is a beautiful place you were flying at, I liked the shots of going close to the trees, you were certainly making the most of the tight space, LazeeBee flying was good as well, thanks for sharing with us, Cheers,

The plane is almost ready but i have a remark.

I collected almost every photo available in the internet concerning the build of this plane.
I followed exactly the way that other people build the wing but it still doesn't seem to be stiff enough. Did you guys that build the XL version used 6mm depron for the lower side of the wing to sterngthen it or you compromised with what it is?

Hi there "Pappi69"...

If you build it the way it is, you (normaly) don't have to stiffen it in any way. Personaly I used an extra piece of 6mm carbon fibre tubing in the centre piece of the wing. The go al the way in the two outerpieces of the wing ( aprox 15cm)

Did you place the wooden pieces also ?

i found the solution and I kinda "operated" the wing!!!
I added e3 lower under spars (one for each section and they dramatically stiffened the wing with just few grams added as weight!!!!

Hi Guys, I'm about to commence my first Depron build. And have decided to make a 2m span Puddle Twin XL. I'm not going to put any Dihedral in the wings as that looks a bit complicated. I have a couple of questions.

1. Will the plane fly ok with a flat wing (ie: no dihedral) ?
2. WIll i need to add any extra re-inforcements, aside form the ones in the 1430mm plane?
3. Would it be best to make it entirely out of 6mm depron?

I am glad to see this thread has somewhat re-emerged. I have always wanted to build one of these, and think I will here in the next few days.

Rich, I think it would fly well without dihedral, and in fact I think it would be best without it unless you are not going to use ailerons.

I will be making mine entirely out of 5mm FFF, and maybe laminating where necessary.

Hello,

I built and successfully maidened & fly the 2 meter Puddle Monster XL this spring, I would recommend to build it keeping the original wing dihedral and rudder/elevator only.
Don't forget this airframe is a slowflyer
The advantage of building with depron is the ease of replacing the original 3mm by 6mm in 200% as pappy wrote up there, cut the pieces and they fall together precisely.
I did the build as original no other mods than pull-pull on tailfeathers and "radial" inspired nacelles around the Tower motors.

Hey guys. My 59" build is coming along nicely. I only made a few changes, mostly leaving out the dihedral, and mods to accommodate the use of all FFF 5mm foam. I re-tiled the plans to US standard letter sized paper. If anyone is interested, I can post them.

I also created a CAD file for nacelle motor mounts that allow the motor to be removed for service and ESC access. I will try to laser cut them tomorrow and test them, but I attached a preview for now.

I will be using 2 RC Timer 2836-11 750kv motors with 11x4.7 SF props, 9x6Es, or even smaller if it sits lower than I anticipate in the water. A GWS 3 blade will look nice. Also hobbywing ESCs will be in the nacelles as well. In my motor mount design there are a couple holes for air intake, the exit will prbably be a plastic spoon scoop-type of deal.
