Hi

I'm placing a HUUUUUGE order from towerhobbies, I need some foam safe paint in a "piper cub" sort of color, but i cant find any. If you need to know what type of foam its the GWS cub. thanks.

We use the Testors Model masters spray paint on our GWS models.
Like any spray paints, make sure to not hold the can too close to the foam. Usually it's the propellent that eats the foam.
I have heard the Krylon H2O paints work pretty well too. These are regular large cans so you get a lot. The model masters cans are small and we always need 2 of each color. Of course, the smaller the can the more they cost!

I don't know if the Cub is the same yellow as the Tiger Moth but if it is, I used Faskolor Fasyellow on my TM. It's a perfect match but you need an airbrush.

Well, I searched on Tower and I found some Testors Models Paint spray on Tower, but I don't know if it's safe to use on foam or not since it says it's enamel, and enamel is that strong part on your tooth so maybe it will eat away at the foam?

Then there is the Krylon Short Cuts that I found but even that is enamel so I'm VERY confused... Help!!

Well, I bought the testors paint anyways. Hope it works.

Lol... I went into chat and someone said it WOULD eat the foam so I bought both, the krylic and the testors! Thanks everyone..

It's lacquer type paint that eats foam. Enamel is fine. Some of the propellants will eat foam but not the Testors.

what about foam safe spray adhesive (minor thread jack here sorry) 3M super 77 is now all acetone type anyone got a good suggestion for a substitute?

I've used 3M77 on styrofoam and depron with no problems. You just have to use a sweeping back and forth motion from at least a foot away so it goes on light.
You can put several light coats on this way. The stuff that melts the foam will evaporate before it reachs the surface when you spray lightly from a distance.

The bad thing, spraying like this will leave a sticky coating on everything around the area. I used it in the break room at work and covered the table top but the floor all around was sticky.

Sorry about getting back to you so late with that PM. Hope you got what you were looking for.
One thing to note: The Testors paint is pretty good on the foam, BUT...remember, too close while spraying and the propellent used to spray the paint WILL attack the foam.
Don't ask me or my GWS Zero how we know?! I had a beautiful job going on my Zero and then got a little greedy with the paint on the bottom of the wing. Either got the paint a bit too thick, or I got too close, but the foam started to bubble I wiped it off quickly with a paper towel and minimized the damage. Just be careful.

These two models were painted using Testors paint. We also use Krylon MATT clear spray over the whole thing. The Matt finish really makes warbirds look great...especially over the decals. No more shiny, gloss decals...very worthwhile to use.
