Delta's

I built a couple of delta's last week and figured I would share them with everybody. They have no airfoil and are built from 1/4" balsa, the balsa is about $7.00 and covering is about $5.00 and it can be built and flying very quickly. The orange one has 4 flights on it with a 7.2 volt speed 400 turning a 6x3 folder or a 5.5x5.5 graupner cam and a 3s tp 1320 pl. AUW for the orange is 16oz and 13oz for the yellow which uses the same battery but has a brushless(nippy 280 silver, I had it laying around and it's better than a speed 400), I have yet to fly the yellow because it was finished last night and was quite windy today. I expect to fly the yellow tomorrow and I will post how it went...Impact

Impact, is the leading edge just sanded to form a roundish type shape or is it beveled to like a 45 degree angle? Wing planform just a piece of balsa or is it in 2 pieces? Is it spar'd or strengthened in any way? What is wingspan?
Sorry to be with many questions. Does look like a quick build and I have some 400's and hs-81 servos sitting around doing nothing.

I'm drawing up a plan that I will post here. I didn't fly the yellow one today because it was snowing and I hate belly landing in fresh powder....Impact

Cool.....Even have some econokote to use for covering.
The only things I fly in the winter are models that have their electronics pretty much covered in case of snow getting in. Burned up a 30 amp esc last winter because water got in. And out went the magic smoke!

I'm thinking about some landing gear because I have to land on tar when there is snow. The plan will be done tonight. I going to try a 6V motor and see how that is, static with the 6V and 4.7X4.7 and 3s is about 23 amps so they won't last but a few minutes at that load but I have a bunch of them so I'm willing to burn up a few.....Impact

Thanks for the word doc!!! Gonna have to grab a sheet of 1/4 inch balsa. I have some but it is not going to be big enough.
I was planning on running a 400 6 volt w/8 cell CBP 1150's.

Great, w/8 cell CBP 1150 for battery it will be easy to balance properly I'm useing a thunder power 3s 1320prolite that weighs 3.2oz(or so) so I have to pack everything up in the front and that still puts me about 1/4" aft of the CG but I'm happy with the way it has been flying. The air frame is fairly weak so I covered it with something not to light( ultracote, oracover and some topflight monokote) the covering adds a lot of strength...I'm on here everyday so I can respone to questions pretty fast good luck with your build.....Impact

With the speed 400(7.2) and a 6x4 master airscrew and 3s static draw is roughly 15 or 16 amps but with 5 minutes of WOT flying I land and the motor is cool so I'm thinking that it unloads a lot in the air(doesn't sound like it though) so now I've gone to a 6V sp400 which with the same 3s pack and a 6x3 cam folder it draws about 23 amps static, I'm thinking that it will unload and reduce the draw to something more realistic......Impact

Well I have a ton of flights on the orange and the yellow I gave away as x-mas present. The orange is brushless now but only 80 to 100 watts and it's not to fast but it's enough to fly and have fun. I have a few other thing to try before my norvel .074 (300+ watts) finds it's way onto the plane and that should turn it into a missile....Impact

The wing is a flat plate and there is a rough plan with post #8 in this thread. A little bit more info can be found here; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468715 ....Impact
