My Graupner Jules Verne RC-Motor yacht

Hello Everyone,

I must share with you some pictures from assembly to finish of this fine Motor yacht by Graupner Germany.
You will see things in these pictures which I’ve now changed to improve the model.
The Kit comes complete with prop shafts, rudders, propellers and all the necessary finishing touches.
I used everything accept for the propellers and the recommmebed motors.
The motors you see in the pictures are 777's they are very strong construction. Twin roller bearings 6-12v 7pole low current drain, 5000+ RPM.
I purchased these motors from (A.J.Graham) MODEL MOTORS DIRECT UK. Unfortunately this motor specialist can only be contact by mail or phone. (No email or web site). Pity
I choose these motors because they are cool running (no need for water cooling) and above all, consume very little current. Infect duration on a 12v 4Ah gel battery at full throttle gives me 1hr cruising. I use 3 bladed 40mm brass counter rotating props. They perform better than the plastic ones.

The speed is excellent (scale speed as it should be for this classy motor yacht.)
I hope that sooner or later I will post some good images for my boat on water.

The model is quite straight forward, so building was quite easy.

Should you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Enjoy it

I am really glad you posted these pictures!

I have the Jules Verne kit. I plan to start it next year. So I am very interested in your build of this model. Do you have more photos taken during construction? If so, please do post them!

I have not even taken my kit out of the box, so maybe my questions are premature but I will ask anyway.

How do you glue the deck to the hull? I see you have taped in may places. Do you add glue then from inside the hull at the seam?

Is the smoke plastic top jigged for the window frames? Or do you just take your best guess at where to glue them on?

Are the motor mounts included in the kit or do you custom build them?

How do you access the inside for maintenance once the model is completed?

Thanks!

K, its a good boat, and has a touch of class that the salina model does not. Ship Collector, how long did it take to build?

interesting construction details on the Jules Verne- Looks like the flying bridge, windows, cabin top and foredeck are a single, vacuformed sheet of plastic?

Hello Kmot,

I only have these images on construction. Unfortunately I didn’t document the full process. (Next time I will) Here is my reply to your questions.

A) I glued the deck to the hull, using medium super glue. I used masking tape to bind the deck and the hull in a way, that when I left the super glue to run in the gap it didn’t fall out from the seam. It is important that you do this. When the gap was completely full of super glue. I sprayed activator on it. It will instantly settle rock solid.
B) All the moulded parts are jigged.
C) The motor mounts are custom made. They are not supplied with the kit.
D) The whole cabin structure comes off for inspection. It’s very practical

Hope my reply is of help to you.

Nice yacht. I'd love to have one! Looks like it almost reaches full plane at speed.

Thanks Stephen. My pics are a bit milky looking so they don't do the boat justice. This was a great kit from Graupner, one of their best I'd have to say. Relatively easy build although the wood railings rerquired several ales in order to get them correctly into place!

Both of you have built magnificent renditions of the Jules Verne yacht. I hope mine turns out as well when I build it.
