Japanese Kawanishi H8K3 Emily Flying Boat Plans

I built the Emily in 3 months starting April 1rst 2011 and have flon her a fe times already. The plans are posted in high definition in my Build Log. Mr. John Hawkins has approved the uploading of his CAD Emily plans here in PDF format in my build thread with his graciousness and generosity to share. I hope you will realize they are available for personal use only. Do not commercialize them. Please respect his wishes.

Maybe here if you subscribe. Quite obscure plane.

All I find are drawings and plenty of pictures scouring the net. You will have to do some digging for sure.

There is a build log going on with DO-26. If you run the search you will find it in RC Groups.

I like the pushers to blow the spray away from the components. Mainly salt water corrosions. Fresh water is usually ok. 2X size would be useful also.

Hi guys -- I could use some help!

I have built a "profile fuse" version of Judi Jetstream and it flies great!

Tried to build a profile version of Judi Sea Jet, and I'm having a big problem. Not sure what is wrong. When I hand-launch Sea Jet (about 3/4 throttle and nose up about 45 degrees), the plane gets about 10 feet out and then the nose tucks down and I've got a lawn dart.

Both planes have same 24" wing span, and about the same CG (+/- 1/4 inch).

Both planes have the same 1500 KV Blue Wonder motor, 15 amp ESC and 450 3S lipo.

One major difference: Jet Stream has the motor mounted just above the wing. Motor centerline is about 3/4 inch above the wind. Sea Jet has the motor mounted about 3.5 inches above the wing (to keep the prop out of the water).

A second difference: Jet Stream has the motor mounted at right angles to the wing. In Sea Jet, the top of the motor is tipped FORWARD a bit (about 5 degrees per the plan).

Since the thrust line in Sea Jet is ABOVE the wing, I can understand it pushing the nose down. However, with the down thrust in the pusher motor keeping the back end down (and supposedly the nose up), I don't understand why it tucks like that!

With NO power, it glides just fine. Indicates that CG and reflex in the elevons is OK.

When you ADD POWER to the plane in a glide, it immediately "tucks".

I've tried a few planes before with motors above the wing line, and have had similar bad experiences with the thrust line above the wing line.

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about re-cutting the back end to increase the amount of down thrust, but if you look at Jurgen's videos, this should not be necessary. HIS version flies great!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

Steve
