Float Design, Construction and set up links

We clearly need a floats design /build references Section.......... Now this is something that I have avoided as others like jim Casey obviously have more experience .............but the answers and links are just so scattered it makes it hard to get into for new comers - So what I suggest is I will gather and group stuff in one place here in terms of links under the heading of float design and set up .....You can PM me a link or put it up and I will see if my new status will allow me to edit (I will always try to credit the finder/provider and source in a description) it into or rather under the one heading.

I would like to keep this as a fairly concentrated reference source, But we clearly need a place to ask questions and trade ideas so if we pick up on some of the existing threads we should be able keep the ideas flowing and you can always start a new topic if you've got a particular model, problem or idea that you need to solve and plug it in with links

The Jet age flying boats

I suppose its the last thing to do its going to be more of an re-organising of some links but hopefully we will still suprise few regulars and introduce a few newcomers to the thread. excuse me whilst I sort it out it will take a while.

By 1945 the jet engine was here to stay http://www.history-of-flight.net/Avi...ge/whittle.htm

The huge Saro Princess was a jet engined strictly speaking......... but a turbo prop -the jets tuned propellors by the medium of a gearbox........ early jet engine design and turbo prop gearboxes naturally proved challenging individually to master ..together well it caused a fine airframe quite a few problems...and this was also a problem for other turboprops of the time on land or sea ........... the other significant large TP jet flyingboat of the time was the USA's Consolidated R3yTradewind Transports, 2 versions AKA the Jabbawocky undone by the engine technology problems
http://avia.russian.ee/air/usa/convair_tradewind.php

Pure jet flyingboats are a rarer breed and with the exception of a few western examples development in this field has largely fallen to the Russians best Known of todays decendants being the current Birievs.

By the end of WW2 the jet engine was here to stay ... so if you looked at the Vidios of the Princess on its ramps you will see the another post war Saro design the Sr1A a jet fighter flyingboat ....nicknamed the Squirt

swoose

Can anybody help. I've scrolled through these posts for any info/plans for a swoose, an old timer modified for float flying but can't find anything.

Have I missed it or is nothing here? If anybody knows of where I might get hold of a set of plans (at a reasonable price) or any info, please let me know.

Thanks.

Excellent source for free plans

http://plans.aerofred.com/ is an excellent site to join and get free download plans. There are some lemons, and some that come out quite crap, but for the most part these are excellent plans.

Cheers Lsss I am going through one of lifes more difficult times at the moment and am only on a borrowed connection so keeping tabs isnt always possible.
When a site shifts ..and some seem to peminantly wobble a link will get you to a page one time try it again a few days later and it will only get you to the next level up! The Russian Video links for the Berievs and Ecranoplans is like that...you have to dig around to find them Smotir is the name to look for in that case.

Go back to page one for the modern Turbojet Beriev flyingboats under the title of Big stuff.

I ran across a very cool website with an incredible amount of old seaplane movie reel type clips available to download. you can download a low res for free, but they want cash for better versions. You can also preview stills of the clips:

http://www.britishpathe.com/product_...hword=seaplane

Lots of Do-X clips, Dornier Wal clips, a Short Valetta clip. a 1931 Schneider Cup race and much more.

Enjoy!

Ercoupe on floats?

My apologies if this subject has already been aired , but how's this for a cool ride:

Ercoupe

Oops! Okay, so they aren't free plans, but the BUSA 1/3 would be a good source of "kit," and Ziroli has plans...
