Welcome to the group. Be sure to check out the free RC flight simulators FMS and/or RC Desk Pilot to practice on. And to make it really easy, get a USB 6ch controller for your computer. Cheapest way to learn. I logged at least 40 hours on a simulator before I ever tried an RC plane and had pretty good success. The biggest things to learn is orientation going away versus coming at you, then landing, then increase the wind conditions and learn to take-off and land into the wind. And the number one thing to learn is "patience" -- flying in too much wind or too fast/acrobatic of a plane will lead to crashes, frustration, and ultimately you could get turned off of the hobby.

nice video Adam! Have you thought of trying a 6mm lens on the FPV camera. I've been using it lately and love it. There's no distance distortion so everything is where its supposed to be so to speak. Flying low is a little tough due to the narrow FOV, but i'm getting used to it. The coolest thing is that it makes the video feed look almost HD.
Sooo I had left my car at the dealer the other day for a major service. They had it parked outside, and in broad daylight someone broke my window and took about $700 worth of stuff from my car (iPod, radar detector, etc). Thankfully the dealer is footing the bill and replacing everything. Sucks tho to have things stolen.. They got it on camera and the cops are working to catch the guy.. |

Aazam, sorry about your car, that is a bummer! It's bad enough losing or damaging your things, but when someone else takes them from you that is aggravating!
Thanks for the recommendation on the FOV. I actually have 3 different lenses that I've tried and while I forget, I think I prefer the 2.3mm which is the middle FOV lens. I have a hard with trusting where I'm at with the narrower one and the wider one makes it difficult judging how close you are to things...maybe I'll need to try the narrower one again though. |

Contehhh, welcome to the Chicago Parkflyers thread and RC flying...it is a blast and it is addicting! Just an FYI, you will crash and you will crash many times, so just be prepared to initially fly a plane you don't mind having to repair a few times...we all have foamies and they're as fun as anything else. Warhead is absolutely right too, practice in the simulator is a huge help.
Please join us if you can, we've helped several others get started, it's a good group of guys...although we mostly fly in the city at Montrose Beach or Northerly Island and then also Plainfield and I also make it out to Hoffman Estates every once in a while too. |

Adam- have you tried the 3.6mm lens? that's the stock one. I find that works well for all-round flying. 2.6mm for me is a little too wide, and the distances seem too off.
