Scott,

Does the Alfa for Mega motors have a larger motor holder? I only have the standard MkII version.

Would cutting down a Schuebler rotor upset everyone on the EDF forum?
Or is that considered defacing artwork!

Yes it does.

Thanks for the photo.

The M fan from Alfa has a 28mm ID motor tube that fits the Mega motor exactly. You have to remove the sticker from the can its that tight. You also should CA the motor in place since it sits back in from the mounting plate you would usually bolt a motor up against.

If your tach can read three blades can you divide the reading from a six blade rotor in half and be fairly accurate? Never done it before.

I tried that hoping that i would be able to just divide it, but it doesnt even register on the tach meter...

OMG! 120 mph on a foam plane! . will the plane even hold up?

Scott, Can I "borrow" your schuebeler rotor?
Most of the tachs out there won't do 60,000rpm, using 3blade it would then have to read 120,000rpm!
120mph? It'd be worth it if the wings ripoff!!!

I finnally was able touse new TP prolite..these batteries are awsome!
Anyways, update on the Alfa/cut-down 6 blade wattage with the AON4900
28amps.
302watts
I like it alot...placed it on a scale and got 15 oz of thrust...3-4oz more than the TP 2nd Gen..

Something seems wrong here. I was getting about 15 ozs of thrust on my 2025-5300 on a 3-cell Polyquest 2200 12c oly drawing 24 amps and 230 watts. Are you sure you aren't getting more thrust than that???

Chris,

I got the Hyperion 5000 the other day. I forgot to check the shaft size and can't use it until i find someone to ream metal hub out for me. I am such a moron for not checking. Did you ever measure the thrust with that motor on 3 and 4 cells?

Here's a tip for everyone.......

I have used about 5 Alpha fans and have noticed after 5o or so flights the motor moves as a result of the screw holes opening up a little under stress and vibration. The causes the fan to rub on the sides of the housing. I used a piece of PC board or you could use light ply and cut in a disc and glued on the inside of the motor mount and then drilled out for the shaft and motor screws. This will keep that from happening.

Just an idea.

Good tip, I did notice that at one point.

Yes I got one thrust number;

on 4S 31-33A = 690-700g thrust on my scale in the Mig, not outside the airframe. The rpm was 60400 out of the frame. These numbers are saved on my Hyperion meter.
3S was an actual flight and I didnt get any thrust numbers before the event happened. It really moved on 3S though, you will like it.

Sounds good Henry! much better than the old pack!
I wonder what the 4900 would do on 4S w/alfa rotor????
I think the wattage rotor is too much load if you try 4S with the 4900.

CofG,

You would have to divide by 3 would you not if it reads only two blades, and if it can read 3 times the rpm's.

I will get back tomorrow on the tensile strength calculation for rotor blades, I validated that the calculation is correct last night and am putting it into format.

Herb went to the AMA show and I had asked him to pick up a mini480fan if there were any, And I'm going tomorrow sometime, Then if I still can't get a usable rotor, I'll cutdown my cutdown kyosho rotor thats in my old Mega/3 WPF! And maybe I'll end up with a spare mini480 to put in something!
