MicroFan Bandit

Thank You Dave morris and devmonkey for designing such a great flying plane!

Wing Span: 30"
Length: 27.25"
Weight: 14.8 OZ
Motor: AON Thrust 4900KV
Battery: 3s E-Tec 1800MAH
Power: ~150 watts. (Est. 10V @15A)

Flight time: 14 min.

It scoots and glides very nice. By far the best flying EDF I have ever made.

The next version posted will be the same size air frame, but will include a 245 watt power system and retracts

Plans and construction

Here are the plans. Tell me if you find any problems.
Plans updated 10/30/05. I just uploaded the wrong version (Forgot to turn snap on for the fuse sides). Too bad the server is shut down for the night. I will upload the right one tomorow. Fixed incorrect location of hole for fan on front bulkhead in page 2. Added interlocking tabs for quicker and more idiot proof construction

Construction Guide

Construction photos comming soon!

Wing is glued to bottom of fuselage 1 3/4" back from intake edge, measured on edge of fuselage bottom. Elevator is glued all the way on the back edge of the fuselage.

CG (Center of gravity) is 5.25" back from the bottom of the intake.

The fan is inserted into the former from the front and glued from the back. Mr. Bogie's intake ring is glued on the front of the fan infront of the former.

Trim the bottom of the fuselage sides to fit over the wing and elevator.

If using BlueCore DO NOT peal the plastic off of the wing, elevator, rudder, or fuselage nose side pieces. It is OK to peal the plastic off of the rear fuselage section.

The bulkhead holding the fan is placed right behind where the back of the wing would be, however the part of the wing behind the spar inside of the fuselage is removed to make room for the intake ring around the fan.

Flight video in about 20 MPH wind!

Please excuse the inverted controled crash landing at the end. The GWS receiver glitched out and I had no power to get out of it.

Pretty Cool,

It flies just like mine since I put the 24mm Hacker into it.

I dont fly like you?...
I try to fly a little more sedate...
I need a new battery for the transmitter now as I think I have a bad cell in the one I have in it, after 5 or 10 minutes usage it is below 9volts seems liek everythign needs replacing lately...

Eric B.

BTW I shortened the wingspan on mine by 4inches and it goes pretty good, tried to keep the wing loading at 10oz/ft^2. Mine came out at 11oz.

Energizer has some new 2500 nimh's. Walmart has an 8 pack for $20. Picked some up for my Optic. The 600 Nicad just don't last..

I still have the original one in mine. I end up recharging my Raptor's reveiver pack 4 times before I have to charge the transmitter. Nothing was as good as my old gold Futaba AM radio. You could use that all day and the voltage would be off the scale!

11 OZ? Mine is a brick at almost 15. The motor and fan assembly weighs about 3.8 oz if I remember right, 4.85 for the battery, but nothing gets warm at full throttle, you get very long flights and it almost hovers.

Which Hacker/battery were you using? How much thrust or watts?

Justin this thing flies great with the scaled up wingspan of the Nano Bandit, shoould work equally well with a Wattage fan with a little more scaling up...
Should work with ROG setup too.

That was the gustiest wind I have ever flown in. Coming at about a 45 deg crosswind. Steady 15 gusting to 25.

The flying was mostly me (And the GWS receiver glitching). You could see how bouncy it was on the passes.

At about 2 min, I was trying to get it to hover or tail slide.

I just weight it on my digital scale and it comes out 7.6oz with out the battery in it.
It climbs straight up with the new BL in it for the first couple minutes. Speed is not much different than yours though and I think it is drag related, I would estimate 50-60mph max. I use a Polyquest 2200 3s pack with it, and th motor is 4900kv.

Cool, maybe I can make a pack for mine, it does not use a battery holder just shrink wrap and soldered cells.
