Main Rotor Blade / Motor Question

I've been learning to fly my GWS MDF for just over a week now, and have had to replace the main rotor blades a couple of times. It has the 150 motor in it.

The new blades are 1.2g heavier (Stock GWS) than the original, and are stiffer. With these new blades, I seem to lose about 5 min of flying time. I'm thinking it's a weight/torque issue...

Should I replace the 150 motor with a 300 for $15 (CAD) or trim 2 to 4 mm off the trailing edge of the blades? And will the stock ESC/Mixer (has a PG-03 Gyro) work with the 300 motor?

I talked to heli expert at one of the shops, listed the advantages of both options, but I still can't decide. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Z

Ok, I went out and bought the 300 motor for my dragonfly. Didn't help.

It would seem that the added rotational mass of the main rotor is having a counter effect on the flybar paddles. I can hover it for about 5-6 seconds, but when it starts to drift, I can't correct fast enough now. This was never a problem with the older, thinner blades.

The old blades were much thinner on the leading and trailing edges. I used my Dremmel to grind down the edges to a sharp edge like the original blades, but the problem persists. Anyone have some advice?

Thanks.

I do. Even though I haven't flew mine in awile and thinking about getting a more updated one I think the 300 is better and am pretty sure the gyro will work better. The only advise I have is to just start from scratch. I would spend a little money and get new blades, a 150 motor you had will be a good start. Then mabye get the GWS lithium polymer battery. That is always lighter and lasts a lot longer.

i use a century mixer/esc and a pg03 gyro on my MDF with a 300 motor and DD tail...I had original black blades worked great...broke them and put some century blades, lots of vibration...I just got some M24 blades and a head stiffner very smooth and stable. I use gws 7.4 volt 1300 mah batteries..they are getting old and i still get good flight times (like 10 min then i let it set and get another 7 or 8 min.) Also try advancing your blades alittle bit and put just a little pitch in your paddles, just a little. Made my MDF much more stable...It is rock solid in a hover and with the blades advnced a little it is vibration free...I love it. The only trouble with setup is there is no adjustment on mixer..all you have is the trim on TX...but it holds tail still and flys great..

I took back my un-opened set of heavy blades and picked-up some for a Cupid. The Cupid blades are 98% the same as the GWS MDF blades.

I used my Dremmel to cut the opened heavy blades down. Followed the DIY (2mm tip to 4mm root) and that brought the weight down to 10.0g per blade. That fixed everything. This is day 11 flying, no crashes... Very happy again...

I have a question. Can I use the same pico servos on the SS than the Dragonfly?

People are ignoring you because you're trying to hijack other people's threads to ask your own unrelated question.

You should start a new thread to ask your question.
