Tempest MK II

Well I have finally decided to build my first kit, a Ron Daniels Tempest MK II 1/10.9 and have picked the subject. Unfortunately I picked a plane that did not survive, but there are other prototypes that did. In trying to research this subject (I have not even ordered the kit yet ), I am not able to locate an undercarriage view of this particular plane. The pic of survivor PR 536 shows the lower color of which I think is sky (rather color blind ) and the PR # in large thin black numbers. I am guessing since the subject is PR 533, that it too would have a similar under side treatment to its close kin. Just wanted to get some input as I am having a difficult time with the colors in the photo let alone what I can't see . Now I have to learn how to glass a model as well as everything a first time build will entail . Thanks for any help.

It's been a LONG time, but I think the underside of the Tempest II plastic model I built, was sky or robin's egg blue.

Thanks for the help madsci guy. One thing I was reminded of by a fellow club member was not to make the underside too invisible since I will be flying it not trying to shoot it down, I did not think of that. That is what invasion stripes come in handy for I guess .

Tempest Colors

Have you found the "Tempest" page yet? I think you might have because the pictures you posted are on it. If not, there's a wealth of info on it.
http://www.hawkertempest.se/

Anyway, I was thinking that it was just a light grey on the bottom so I did some research last might. It seemed to me i had a color three-view in one of my books. It took a while to find it, but it was in "Camouflage and Markings, No 1, RAF Fighters, 1945 - 1950, UK Based, published by Scale Aircraft Monographs. It says that the day fighter scheme was dark green, ocean grey and medium sea grey. I've included some scans of the pages.

Okay, the pictures didn't work. That was my first try. Can anybody tell me how to add pictures?

Thanks Bob and ShaverR6!

I am getting some help from some younger eyes with the colors in the pic, and yes it is from The Tempest Page. Bob thanks for taking the time to research your library . I will more than likely go for a similar treatment as PR 536 I have in my first post, but I will have lots of time to decide . I just better get the kit before Ron sells out of them .

You wont be dissapointed, the kits are great quality. I am soooo close to getting my Sea Fury in the air. I just need to get my V1 flying in order to get some aileron practice, i have been flying gliders too long and i am a little rusty.

ShaverR6, Pat
I thought I recognized your handle . You are in one of my many saved build threads with that amazing Sea Fury! You did a fantastic job on that plane. I want to do the lighting system and retracts as well. I have so much to learn having never built a kit before. I am reading my brains out with the wealth of info here at rcgroups. I really want this to come out right so I want to paint and sheet the wings if possible and keep the kit as scale as I can.

The standard RAF camouflage worn by these aircraft was Dark Green and Ocean Gray on the upper surfaces over Medium Sea Gray under surfaces.
