West London Models is the place to go for electric stuff, and it's so close to Heathrow, where you will probably be arriving. It's only a few minutes from the hire car places for Terminals 1, 2 & 3. And whatever you do, don't get a black cab from the airport into the centre of London, unless someone else is paying!
Otherwise, Slough R/C, which is probably 20mins from Heathrow is very good, but I can't remember how much electrics they do. |

308 hobbies is a good place, lots of micro helis and gws stuff! do a little search on google for a map!
to be honest though, we usually pay in pounds what you pay in dollars.... so a 50 dollar kit would be about 50 pounds in the uk (making about 80 - 90 dollars!!!!) As for things that you can't get in the states.... not a lot really i don't think! we get jipped on everything..... cost and availability! |

Todd,
unfortunately this is the grim reality. dont bother with Hobby Stores in camden, they are probably the most expensive hobby store in the country, i got my ARC Ready Trainer/buddy box/TX etc from there years ago when i didnt have a clue (well at least they suggested the Ready which is SO durable). West London is my local decent hobby store, they are a couple minutes drive from heathrow which (traffic permitting!!!) is about 40 minutes drive from the centre of london (average traffic) Lewist i hear you, they can be very blase. but generally there ok Slough R/C are a good shop but they are basically our version of Tower Hobbies (alot alot smaller) they own Hobby stores and Ripmax and are the sole importer/distributer of Futaba/O.S./Great planes/ etc for the uk, very mainstream. 308 Hobbies are again an expensive shop ( minutes from the new Arsenal stadium), on Holloway road in north london, they do have good bits and bobs, usefull for popping in on way home but there more i/c planes and cars(and motorbikes), a small shop really. Als hobbies are a good chain but little electric, only edf is afew Scorpio kits i really wish there was a better place! im really interested also if there is, maybe i havn't found it yet, i hope... really its a case of getting this bit from here and that from there.. alex P.S. there are Tons of fantastic places to eat!! |

You might as well just look around Hamleys in Regent Street rather than trying to find any model shops in London. Sky High rents, rates and wages make it virtually impossible to run a shop for profit. Most of us rely on mail order from small companies on remote industrial estates or we buy in from Germany, Hong Kong or America.
Hamleys is 4 or 5 floors of toys, a great place to spend an afternoon with a few models on one of the top floors. |
