Excite F5D lightweight

I will be using the Aveox 27/26/1.5 in the Excite F5D with the long nose cone. The APC 5x5 and 10 GP2000 cells pull around 50 amps. I would like to prop up to 60 amps burst, but be able to run all day long at 40 amps.

What is the next size prop to increase the current to 60 amps? Also, what would be a good lipo pack for this application?

APC 6x5.5E is what we use on our F5D-SD models. It may do what you're looking for.

I use a 5.2x5.2 Graupner on my TL but the Graupner props break much easier than the APC's. I wish APC had a 5.5x5.5.

Boil graupner props for few hours and keep them in wet plastic bag. They are then much stronger.

Thanks for the prop suggestions. I did not know that APC made a larger prop for small pylon planes. Will try that graupner, too.

So what kind of speed should I expect? 120mph-ish?

APC has these 2 +/- sizes which might be made to work. It seems to me the Graupners run as though they de-pitch a bit from their nominal sizes compared to the APC's, mind you some of teh ones I run are carbon which are stiffer than the regulargrey. You can snip & repitch apc's too.

5.5 x 4.5E
5.25 x 6.25

I do the same thing. Buy APC 6x5.5 and trim the tips down.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will do that as I like the APCs better anyway.

Could not get the plane to balance w/ 10 GP2000 in the traditional 5 by 5 pack. CG works with the two rows of 3 over 4 triangle.

Some old and tired FAUPs were used for the mock-up.

elevator

Good pics, Russ.

Am about to get started on mine. Please describe the elevator install in more detail. Does the rod curve up in the vertical? Is a thinner wire attached to the rod up toward the elevator? Where does that white tube start? Is tube glued to the fuse? I'm thinking about using a tube-in-tube cable and route it up the vertical stab, but maybe your set-up is better.

thanks,
tufnik

Flight pack

Russ,
What size flight pack will you use and where do you get them from? Or are you using BEC?

Yes, the rod curves up in the vertical. The 0.8mm wire is in the 1.0mm white tube for its entire length. The tube starts 1" behind the servo and is glassed to the bottom of the fuse every few inches. I used a CF rod (ex leading edge from a Shockie that is great for working in long and deep fuses.....) to dangle 1/4"x1/2" pieces of soaked glass to secure the tube to the fuse. Then for added measure, I pushed in some 3/16" balsa bulkheads that were sanded to shape. The tube is epoxied at the top of the fin and at the balsa rub in the vert fin. It is not going anywhere.
