Yorktown Battlefield Pics

This afternoon I did an AP flight at the Yorktown Battlefield using my new mount for my good digital camera. There was a bit of a breeze coming off the water, so I didn't take as many pics as I would have liked. (Only about 30.) I'll put up some of the nicer ones. It helps to get oriented by looking at the first picture posted by LuftAdler in this thread. I parked at the little loop shaped parking lot at about 1 o'clock in his overview picture. I'm not 100% sure of the National Park policy towards flying RC planes on the battlefield. I've seen other people do it before, and I've seen people fly kites there, but haven't talked to a ranger about it myself. Just to be safe, while flying I stood in a spot where a bushy tree was between me and the visitors center. I'm planning to offer these pictures to the park to use as they might like. Hopefully, that should generate some good will towards the RC hobby.

I really like this first series of three pictures. They show a nice sweeping view of the battlefield.

1) This shot gives a neat view of the shoreline at the base of the hill. There is no other way to see these little beaches except by boat.

2) Another shot of the redoubt, with me in the picture, at the lower left.

3) This is a neat overhead shot of the line of cannon and morters extending from the redoubt to the left in the previous picture. It was the taking of this redoubt, and another one nearby, that let the Americans fire point blank into the English left flank. This led quickly to the surrender of the town. The other redoubt is nearly gone. Half of it has fallen into the river as the cliff has eroded.

4) The zig-zag trenches were used to move between the American/French inner line, and the outer lines further back.
