I've had this plane in the box for over nine months now and I'm finally getting around into building it; and also, I thought I would revive this thread a little by posting the motor setup I will be using.

I had to add at least 2 ounces of lead to the cockpit area to balance it at the recommended CG. I maiden it last Friday in windy conditions (~5-7mph) and it had the tendency to dutch roll during flight. I haven't flown it since then... I'll post an update when I fly it again in calmer conditions and observe its performance...
A couple of modifications I made on the plane is I decided to fore go the ball joint control horns for fear that it might detach during flight and I'll lose control of the plane. I used the spare control horns I had that came from other kits... I also replaced the heavy steel control rods that came in the kit with two 1mm carbon fiber rod to drop a little weight at the tail-end. The motor-and-prop combination is definitely powerful enough to make the Dust Devil go vertical at launch, which is impressive to watch as it goes straight up in to the sky... LG Quote:

I've been enjoying flying this plane... It is definitely a floater especially in calm conditions... The spoiler works really well when activated - the plane literally dives.
It's too bad that Cox doesn't distribute this plane anymore. It's definitely worth the money I paid for it, $107. |

I agree, especially for those who want a "first" sailplane, but even those with experience. My only complaints were the short nose length, that makes it hard to fly on a lightweight power system, and the 2m span - they made a larger center section as the tail was adequate for a 2.5m span, but it never made it into production. If it had, I would have kept mine..

For the lighter weight power system, just add some ballast to the cockpit area, which I had to do with mine, and it balanced right at the recommended CG.

Perhaps one reason it is not discussed more is they don't make it anymore.

I flew mine yesterday with the current motor setup I have on the plane... I moved the battery forward as close as possible to the motor (just a shy from touching it) and it balanced right at the CG, this is without the extra weight...

There are only over 50 posts since this thread was started in 2005. Cox stopped making and distributing it just last year...
