Hi Gunner, and thanks.

Im building it fairly stock. Im going to chuck away the diving mechanism, and install a servo for the forward dive planes. Its only going to be a dynamic diver at first. It seems pretty easy to convert to static later on, and I plan to do that.

No idea whos boat the grey one is. I have downloaded lots of pictures on the net to help me build....

Im not 100% sure how these whale bones are supposed to be installed, as the instructions are not very clear, and the few pictures that you only can get a glims of them are quite small.

But I think I got it right. They support as much as they can on the sides of the hull.

You got it correct ,they go down the hull sides. Where do you plan to put your servo for dive planes?

Oh yea glue them in real good ,the sub weighs a ton and when you pick it up out of the water all the pressure is on the hull and it will crush against the wtc if not supported corrctly. Not a big problem but will crack body work and paint if you are not really careful.

Hi Jim.

I have not decided how I will do it yet.

But the easy way seems to have the servo mounted at the rear inside the WTC, and then loop the pushrod forwards.

SJ,
If you loop the the brass pushrod forward, make sure that that it is well supported aft of the conning tower. Foward of the conning tower, you can use the flexible aircraft type push rod. That is what I used in the my U47 (those pictures are pictures of my boat), The red rod is glued to achor points while th yellow rod slides insid ethe red rod. A very smooth operation with little slop.

I detailed the tower a little while the glue on the hull dries.
Far from scale, but it should look a little like a VIIB U-47 tower

Still need to do all the outside detail........

U47 working front vanes

Hi SJ

When you decide to retro fit a static diving system and if you want to look at fitting an Engel tank let me know.

One way to power the front vanes is to fit a waterproof servo under the conning tower and modify the kit front vane operating system. If you would like details of how to waterproof the servo send me a mail.

Clive Wadsworth, a sub buddy of mine, fitted an Engel tank and waterproofed and fitted a servo into his U47 three or four years ago. It's still working perfectly!!!!!!!

His boat sails a dream.

Anyway, I hope all goes well with you.

Thanks Gunner. Im still thinking :-)

I could also install the servo at the very fron inside the WTC in the "cieling" and opertate the pushrod througt the forward end cap.

SJ, How would you get to the servo if anything went wrong with it? Gunner is right the waterproof servo under the conning tower is the way to go and very easy to do.Easy to get at, to adjust and cuts down linkages running front to rear .I mounted mine under the tower and glued the connector to the back bulk head ,so when you pull the tray out you only have a small lead to worry with, no linkages.

Jim
Btw looks like you are off to a good start .Great job

How to make the servo waterproof.

The waterproof servo for front vane is a very innovative indea for me. I am building my Robbe seawolf V2 at the moment. I also want to use the waterproof servo for more powerful front vane. Would you mind to share your experience on how to construct waterproof servo?

Thanks. I still have time to make up my mind about it :-)

Meanwhile, I found some pictures of the real U-47 VIIB, and I could see that the railing on the conning tower was all different than stated in the Robbe Manual. Så I took off the railing, and installed a more acurate one. I have also removed some of the front wave breaker like the original....and add`d a few extra details.
