Futaba FC-16 range problem.

Hi guys, I own a Futaba FC-16 (european), and recently my signal range has dropped significantly. With antena at it's shortest position I get about 50 meters on the ground. Sometimes when the signal is lost (stil on the ground) I get as near as 15-20 meters till receiver catches it (im using PPM). Changed both aerials (rx & tx), cleaned everything up, still performance is poor. I'd like to get a new radio but good ones are'nt for free. It would be great if anyone could help me solve the problem... ]

Thanks,
Robert

If it is indeed the Transmitter causing the problem then most likely the RF section has been damaged( has been reduced in out put power). Most common reason is operating the transmitter with the antenna collapsed for extended period of time such as when setting up an aircraft or being left turned on by mistake. Before everyone says they do this all the tie and their's is still fine, great! The RF section is a tuned circuit and when the antenna is not fully extended it is way out of tune which causes their RF Finals to overheat. Some transmitter may have protection circuits but not a radio are created equal. Most radio manufactures will void the warranty if a Rubber Ducky Antenna is used for this very reason. The Transmitter is tuned for use with the factory supplied antenna only and it is only tuned(matched) when fully extended.

Perhaps I just found out my problem then. Over the years my Sanwa has been used to setup a few models with the aerial down for practical reasons. I can't say I ever noticed it warm though.

A repair shop could check the RF output and if it is less than it should be replace the RF power transistors . If it is / was a RF Module Transmitter a new Module would fix it.

Nuts.. I tried another rx with a new tx crystal and the problem remains. I'm meeting up with a friend who has a Sanwa tx, so we'll get to the bottom of this!
