ARC - New brushless motors!

Got me ARC 20-34-110 motor from www.lightflightrc.com , which surprised me quite a bit when I saw it. If you get combo deal with Phoenix 10 then motor costs practically nothing too, keeping in mind regular P10 prices around. Gotta love those combo deals popping up lately!

Anyway, it will be used to replace GWS 350 motor, now I need to get me some pinions and props and try to find the sweet gearing spot and prop for it first.

It's gotta be 2mm for a speed 300 size. They say it fits the GWS and HiMax gearboxes. Some of those motors are real high Kv, 4500 and 4600 might be good for a fan or something. How are you going to set that puppy up hovertime?

OK, turned everything upside down only to remember later that a friend of mine borrowed my digicam LOL.. so pics in a few days.

Actually 4500 and 4600 rpm/v would be better for my application, I am using 2S lipos for my small planes, and 3100kV motor is not the best choise... I should have gotten smaller ARC 80W motor instead, would be still plenty for GWS Beaver.

PS - GWS 350 motor has kV of 5330. Beaver has gearing of 5.33, so prop shaft kV is 1000 rpm per volt. So ill try to keep it same and to get a 1000 rpm per volt at prop shaft I will need around 3:1 gearing for my ARC 110 3100 kV motor. So will pick one of the closest GWS gear sets later.
Motocalc numbers look good - close to 1 hour cruising with 9x7 prop and 1320 2S pack.

I don't wish to disillusion you, but 1 hour on a 2s 1320 batt means you plan to be flying on about 20 watts. Don't expect much performance if your plane weighs more than about 4 or 5 ounces AUW.

Actually I had calculations with Slow Stick airframe, just redid it, it predicts 80 minutes for Beaver. Motocalc is good for general reference, although its as precise as the numbers you punch in, and they are not precise

PS I have heard of guys flying for a long time with Beavers on stock motor and NiCd 270mAh packs... and they are definitely heavier than 5 ounces, double or triple that..

I am not trying to get performance with Beaver but rather high efficiency / long flights.

Anyways - fired up this motor again, it has very strong cogging, when turning by hand, and runs smooth as silk when it gets rolling. In fact it has zero vibrations, (and I was thinking that my small Neu motor is vibrating due to its strong cogging... hmm.. maybe its just out of balance??, I should try to contact Steve Neu... I wonder if they balance rotors?)

Seavolf 24 - I have just assumed its 2 mm shaft, and it looks so, as soon as I get GWS pinion/press it on I will let you know for sure.

Kevin - waiting for pinion/gear for GWS box, so no flight report. I am particularly interested to see how it compares to the stock GWS 350 motor, turning same prop at same voltage. My goal is - much better efficiency, and some extra power is welcome too
So far have measured kV which matches, and no load current, which is dead on too.

I was originaly planing on using the 130w in my e-flight Yah 54f in combonation with a new thunderbird controller but it doesn't seem like CC is getting there act together. I will just get a cool running Esc A-12 instead.

Snapped a pic with my web cam, will post some better ones when I get my better camera back... Motor with adapter plate mounted, alongside GWS 300/350 motor.
Got the pinions, will try them on tomorrow.

I bought a couple ARC motors from LightFlightRC also over the past couple weeks. First start out by saying WOW....and also there is nobody better in the business than LightFlightRC.
I bought the 80W and the 130W. I have the 130 in a HOB Chipmunk and i get great performance out of it. I have been running a GWS 10X6 HD prop in a GWS 350 gearbox with a C gearing. According to my numbers I have been pulling 12.7 A on a 3C lipoly and getting about 35 oz T at 45 mph Pitch Speed and never had any heat in it. Needless to say the Little Chipmunk goes up and up and......I am hooked on these great little motors.

Some more Numbers on the 130
D gear 3C lipoly
10X8 14A 34oz T 50 MPH
9X7 11.8A 24oz T 47 mph

C Gear 3C
8X6 9.6A 23oz T 45 mph

Yes, you directly solder it to esc. Often I remove factory attached bullet plugs if they are present, and solder direct to esc anyway.

Most (all?) 20 mm size motors have wires that looks like that under the cover..

Mounted it, better picks :
Had some troubles pressing pinion on - rear shaft end is recessed, and had to be supported by 2 mm screw to protect bearings. Otherwise rear bearing may get damaged during pinion installation.

Time for power testing!

I just got an Email response from Dave at LightFlightRC. He is recommending the 110 Watt motor as a replacement for my Himax 2015-4100 in "C" & "D" Gearboxes. What is the difference between the 110W & the 130W that you have? Is it just the KV rating?
