Visalia Warm-up contest/CASL Monthly Contest Sat. Sep. 10th Gilbert, AZ

The Central Arizona Soaring League (CASL) www.casl.net is gearing back up for our monthly contests after our summer break.

This contest is a Visalia Warm-up and is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th with the pilots meeting at 9:00am.

Rick Bothell is the CD and tasks will be similar to Visalia. Landings will be a measured tape. 6 rounds are scheduled.

Unlimited and 2M are to be flown and you may fly one or both classes. Entry fees are $3.00 for one class and $5.00 for both. AMA is required!

The Contest will be held at the CASL club field (Rodeo Park) SE corner of Ray/Val Vista in Gilbert, AZ.

RealBalls winches and Hands Free Retrivers will be the launching system of choice.

Not too many days left to get some quality practice in before the Fall Fest, so, if you are in the area please come out and join us!!!

If you are into long distance commuting, then you can attend the Torrey Pines Gulls Visalia warmup the next day in Poway, CA, September 11. I will be the CD for the contest that day. You can find directions to our field on our website:

Hey Terry,

I'll tell you what! Come on out to the CASL contest, and I WILL drive out after our contest and attend yours! I am serious!

Lord knows I need the practice!
I am serious about that too!

If it wasn't for the fact that I am now married, you might be having to make a trip to Poway. When it was just me and my two girls, I would show up for a contest that far away and be back the next day to fly a contest here. I am flown many times at the Rodeo Park field before they moved the Southwest Classic to the farms outside of Queen Creek.

I hear ya Terry...I was, and still am, ready to make that trip out! I was just going to take the wife and kids with me directly from the CASL contest to Poway, and crash for the night once we got there.

BTW, I had a great time out at the IHLGF! What a great event you guys put on!

Justin
Still serious about being serious.

Not able to this time, will try another time. Maybe I'll try to get over to the Southwest Classic in February. Depends on if the schedule permits it.

No pics or video of this one. Videos of soaring contests tend to be a bit dull except for landings. The fun is in flying, not so much watching. There are pictures of some of our contests that we hold at other locations around the state in the 'Tucson Thermal Soaring' thread.

Winds and temps were up a bit, and lift was blowing down wind very fast. Several composite ships suffered damage as a result of the conditions.

The projected winds kept the turnout low...I call it 'Contest Wind', and figure I have to fly in it if I want to be competitive at a national level. Not everyone agrees.
