Great Planes ESC Receiver Combo; any experiences?

After trying unsuccesfully to stuff 555 and a 30amp ESC into my ACE simple 400, I opted to try the GWS Rx. Wrong choice! I have now rebuilt my Simple 400 and went looking for an alternative. I picked up the new GP 30A ESC/RX thinking it would serve my purpose. I read the instructions and it says 870' range. Why would I want to run with 30 amps and keep it less than 100 yards away. It also says use only single conversion crystals. I was told it takes standard crystals.

What's the scoop here? Has anyone tried this thing? Results? Comments? Range?

It sounds like this neat little combo is destined for my Slow Poke.

Bummer.

Haven't used the GP combo. Single conversion rx's are short on range as the instructions indicate. The 30 amp max current is puzzling to me.

I have used the GP 30 ESC and it works just fine, though.

Not much help from me, I'm afraid.
