X-Twin Mod: The PING WING

After flying, breaking and re-buying several x-twins, I wanted to use it's guts in something else. Inspiration came from the window...

Design; a printout of a seagull. the wing-drawing I cut out of depron twice.

The tricky part was to get the wing-shape right.
I glued the two parts together and forced them into sape using 4 beer-cans:

It worked surprisingly well..!

As you can see I secured the 'bend' in the wing with a drop-shaped piece of depron.

A small test of this beauty-wing tured out really well, it was flying very smoothly. Ofcourse there was hardly any weight under it...
wing with roomate:

The body i cut out of a foam-cup.

For the head I cut up the crash-resistant body of the X-twin.

Also the tail came out of a cup, But I replaced it later with a slightly bigger 'normal' v-tail, which worked a lot better. It is 'plugged in' the backside, without glue. This way it can always be adjusted.

Electronics...

...The"Ping Wing"! Oooow...she looks so nice...!

Topside

front

Bottom. as you can see the 'bend' is slightly tilted oposed to the body.

and a side-view. translation:
"duwrichting": direction of thrust
"zwaartepunt": center of gravity
"uitlijning vleugels": wing alignment

The model was build in about three days, (could be done faster) hardly costs anything (except for one x-twin), and flies REALLY nice..!

Watch the MOVIE . It fooled the pigeons...!

I've built and flown several free-flight and rc planes/gliders using a wing very similar to your design. I have found that an inverted V-tail works better for me than the up-right one,but there's no doubt yours is working quite well. Keep Up The Good Work!
