Krick U-Boat Type VII Submarine

Hi,
I've been flying RC planes for years but am thinking about building a submarine. Has anyone had any experience with Hobby Lobby's "Krick U-Boat Type VII Submarine". It looks good. It is capable of flooding to neutral bouyancy, and then submerging with dive planes. Thanks, Rich Graf

hi Rich,

welcome to rc submarines, I have seen several Krick u-25 models over the years, and though they are not scale, scale, they do look neat out on the water. I have not seen a type VII in person, however these kits build into a realistic running model with a little time and effort. Good luck, wish I had more info on the VII kit for you. If it is anything like the u-25 it shoud be fine. On another note, these are a basic type of kit. They will be set up to run and dive with no ballast system, as you mentioned they dive with the planes only. Good saftey feature if you think about it. They will float back to the surface if you lose signal, thats only with an electronic speed control. Jeff Jones

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply. From what I see on the Hobby Lobby site, you can add "KK311 U-Boat Drive and Dive Set which installs into the lower section of the hull. Drive and Dive Set allows flooding of the sealed lower hull section to the point of neutral bouyancy. At this point the dive planes can be used to realistically dive and cruise the sub below the surface of the water" .

I think that the Type VII has some sort of ballast tank. They sell a 3-speed pump controller for this dive and drive set. Maybe I'll ask their sales staff if I make it to the NEAT Fair Sept 16-18. Rich Graf

Looks like the Krick modelmakers got the conning tower all wrong, it's got a very "straight" look. Easy molding perhaps?

krick VII

the krick builds into a nice boat but lacks any detail so it is a super detailers dreams
the tower is completely wrong it looks more like a IX tower that a VII
just go slow and read the instructions carefully and re-read

I have built two,the only mod I have done is making the stern plans opperate you get better dive times and quicker responces

any pics of your boat please?

I ve just bought this kit and about to start work on it - its a nice size it looks like to transport, and doesnt look too complicated to build.

Any tips of perils that I need to look out for?

thanks
